James H. Anderson is an American computer scientist, and a Kenan Professor of Computer Science[1] at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research interests include real-time systems, distributed and concurrent algorithms, multicore computing and operating systems.[1]

Biography[edit] James Anderson is currently a Kenan Professor of computer science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Michigan State University in 1982, an M.S. degree in Computer Science from Purdue University in 1983, and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990.[2]

Anderson is the chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Real-Time Systems[3]

Research[edit] Anderson's research areas include real-time scheduling and synchronization, cyber-physical systems, distributed and concurrent algorithms, and experimental evaluation of real-time resource allocation mechanisms.[4] He has published more than 200 papers in these areas.[5]

Awards and honors[edit] Anderson received the U.S. Army Research Office Young Investigator Award in 1995.[6] He was named Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in 1996.[7] He was also named a 2012 Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for contributions to the implementation of soft-real-time systems on multiprocessor and multicore platforms[8] and a 2013 Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)[9].
