WTF? Dates confused edit

Hey bud, lede says the guy lived 1818-1896, but the sidebar says 1831-1903. You may want to double-check that. Textorus (talk) 16:32, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Uh, bad stuff up. William Rolleston wouldn't have liked his wife to be married to him either. Thanks for spotting this; should be all fixed. Schwede66 20:27, 4 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

– no clear primary topic, and this one is far short of primacy.
"James FitzGerald" is a massively ambiguous name. The dab page at James FitzGerald (disambiguation) lists 29 other entries, of which the New Zealand politician is not even the single most-viewed topic. Nor does it appear to be primary by long-term significance or by usage in reliable sources.
Extended rationale below. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:53, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • Extended rationale:
  1. Page views: The most viewed JF (of the sample I tested) appears to be James FitzGerald, 1st Duke of Leinster, with 2,788 pageviews in the last 90days. However, the NZ politician James FitzGerald had only 1005 views in 90 days. The NZ politician doesn't get even 20% of the total pageviews of a sample of 10 articles: https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&range=latest-90&pages=James_FitzGerald%7CJames_Fitzgerald_(Australian_cricketer)%7CJames_FitzGerald_(artist)%7CJames_Fitzgerald_(English_cricketer)%7CJames_Fitzgerald_(Irish_politician)%7CJames_Edward_Fitzgerald_(bishop)%7CJames_FitzGerald,_1st_Duke_of_Leinster%7CJames_FitzGerald,_1st_Earl_of_Desmond%7CJames_FitzGerald_(writer)%7CJames_FitzGerald,_6th_Earl_of_Desmond
  2. Long-term significance: I would usually give a Prime Minister a high ranking for long-term historical significance, but in this case a) the historical consensus seems to be that the New Zealander was not actually Prime Minsister; b) the other articles in this set are not just ephemeral products of popular culture. They include nobility, soldiers, and politicians going back to the 15th century (more than 400 years before the New Zealander). Several of these James FitzGeralds were Earls or Dukes of Desmond, a dynasty which was very powerful for hundreds of years of Irish history.
  3. Search results:
So I don't see any criterion by which the New Zealander can be regarded as the primary topic. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:54, 28 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
