Why is there nothing on his wartime activity given what an important era it is? I can't believe that there isn't at least one sentence explaining his whereabouts during 1940-45. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.44.79.192 (talk) 20:07, 23 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Delors was 15 when the German occupation started, making it unlikely that he did anything of significance... But I'll be fair to you: I own a copy of his autobiography in which he states that he graduated from secondary school in 1943 and subsequently went on to study Economics. He passed an exam to enter the Banque de France, the national bank, in May and June 1945. He was then working in a office working on securities and dividends. He apparently was also carrying on studies on the side and only had a significant job once they were over in 1950 when he became a senior civil servant. Before that date, he was arguably a random young man trying to make a life for himself. If you were looking for some juicy cheese-monkey surrendering to fuel your Europhobia, you won't find it in the 'important era' of WWII. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.108.240.224 (talk) 14:56, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Does anyone have an appropriate translation of that magnificent expression "Up Yours Delors" into French? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Plerdsus (talkcontribs) 01:05, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I recommend deleting the phrase "He advocated a pause in the social policies, " First the expression in English is poor and unclear (at the very least there should be no definite article), and second, I don't believe it is accurate at all to say that he recommended suppressing social welfare etc. The rest of the sentence is fine. I am not sure that you understood what I wrote in English. I don't recommend a change... I recommend a DELETION
So thee is NO reference.
First the English syntax is poor.
Second the meaning is incomprehensible. I am an economist, know the period well, and can quite well guess what was meant. But trivial and simplistic.
There are other changes that need to be made to the expression too. But if the article is locked for long and a bureaucratic answer is given to a very reasonable request, I am off to other pastures. Bye. TGcoa (talk) 23:40, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
