Contested deletion edit

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because the Jabberwocks of Brown University is the oldest a cappella singing group at Brown University and one of the oldest college a cappella groups in the United States. It is more than notable. Wikipedia includes many college a cappella groups, such listed here: List_of_collegiate_a_cappella_groups It would be unreasonable to exclude one of the more notable groups historically (and one which is very active today) if these other groups are included. Note that the Jabberwocks are listed in the Wikipedia article on a cappella groups in the United States, here: Collegiate_a_cappella. Note that there are eight links to the Jabberwocks article from other Wikipedia pages, not including a redirect and the Jabberwocky dab page. Coastside (talk) 21:27, 8 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Removing list of current/past members edit

I'm 99% sure the list of current and past members should be removed from the infobox, but will wait to see if there is any objection. The rationale for deleting the names from the infobox:

  • There are no references provided.
  • Other a capella and collegiate extracurricular entries do not provide a list of members.
  • Even pages for organizations where being a member makes a person notable--which I would contest in the case of the Jabberwocks--do not list all historical members, only those for whom the listing is notable and appropriate for an enyclopedic article. E.g.: San_Francisco_49ers#Players_.26_personnel.
  • There are over a hundred members listed, but given the length of time the group has existed it seems that there should be many more.
  • The current members do not appear to be current, given the '12 graduation (I assume) year listed for many. Thomas Craven (talk) 18:57, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'd rather see current members maintained to keep it up to date rather than deleted, but if active Jabberwocks don't care to do that, then so be it. Coastside (talk) 21:43, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the input Coastside. I think it would be ideal for the members to maintain a list of current and past members on the group website, and a link from the Wiki article to that would then certainly be appropriate. I've removed the names from the infobox and it looks like all the linked names are in the Notable Alumni section. If/when there are any other independently notable members with their own pages I hope people will add them to the Notable Alumni section as well. Request for Comment: New WikiProject for A Cappella-related articles edit

Hi there! To any and all interested: I've proposed a WikiProject dedicated to a cappella. This would be a group of editors interested in improving the quality of articles related to a cappella. If you're passionate about a cappella—ranging from the Pentatonix to collegiate a cappella groups like the Jabberwocks, or perhaps pop culture representations like Pitch Perfect and The Sing-Off—please check out the proposal and share your thoughts!

Here's a link to the proposal for WikiProject A Cappella.

If you could see yourself contributing to an article related to a cappella (like this one), please consider joining!
