Article name

edit

Since Wikipedia tries to use common names of people (see: WP:NAME and Keke Rosberg, below), shouldn't this article be named "JJ Lehto"? Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 04:47, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Maybe we should talk about this on the Wiki Project page. Bretonbanquet 23:04, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Photograph?

edit

Doesn't anyone have a photograph of JJ? It would be very nice to have one. --Rivazza (talk) 19:37, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article name change?

edit

I think this article ought to be changed from JJ Lehto to his common (real) name Jyrki Järvilehto. JJ was just an alias he used as an F1 driver to make his name more pronounceable for non-Finnish speakers. No-one in Finland actually refers to him as JJ anymore.--88.193.42.92 (talk) 10:37, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

He is still known entirely by the name JJ Lehto in the US and I'd assume the UK. For an English encyclopedia, it'd make sense to me to keep his common name known to the majority of English-speaking users. What the Finnish Wikipedia names their article has no bearing on the naming of this article. The359 (Talk) 19:03, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
The common name in the English-speaking world is JJ Lehto, and as The359 has said, it doesn't matter at all what the Finnish Wikipedia calls him, or what the Finnish press call him. Also, during the period which gave him notability, he was JJ Lehto. The article should be moved back, the change was pretty arbitrary. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:33, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
"Jyrki Jarvilehto" gets 81,600 Ghits, "JJ Lehto" gets 349,000, over 4 times more. Jyrki Jarvilehto may be his common name in Finnish, but WP:COMMONNAME states that we should use "the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." Spyder_Monkey (Talk) 19:45, 17 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

No. Jarvilehto is not his official name, neither is JJ Lehto, Järvilehto is. The change was not arbitrary in the very least, that's his bleeding name. But I don't want to get in an argument, I would simply like some assistance on how we could get the article name to reflect the truth better. I find it ridiculous that an article about this person would use his outdated racing alias as the official title of the article. Keke Rosberg is different since the nickname remains in wide usage to this day. Plus, the article itself is inconsistent in its name usage, switching between Järvilehto and Lehto when talking about him. --TheHande (talk) 17:50, 29 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
