BLP Issues and locking of page

edit

Sign - an edit war and not one jot of discussion. I cannot see any BLP Violation here, and the article as locked is effectively Censored.

  • The material on J. Williams' domestic violence is contentious, and obviously care is required to ensure that it is described in a neutral manner.
  • Williams has not denied the allegations - he said "I acknowledge that the story of my behaviour will disappoint many people and for that I am deeply sorry". He has only "downplayed" them in a magazine interview.
  • However, it is well sourced, having been covered in all major NZ media. Fairfax newspapers, NZ Herald, TVNZ, Otago Daily Times. It has been re-reported on MSN and Yahoo.

Therefore, under my reading of WP:BLP, the fact of the allegations and of his subsequent resignation should be included in the article. dramatic (talk) 18:34, 16 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

It seems their is a vendetta against the person/artist known as J.Williams. There isn't a criminal investigation pending and how can tabloid news be considered 'factual'? (Larcoix1975 (talk) 09:11, 17 May 2011 (UTC)).Reply

All three sources given by dramatic are highly reliable news sources. Adabow (talk · contribs) 09:45, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

All of the media groups are quoting from the original article with their own spin on each - there is no new info so how can this be seen as credible? (Larcoix1975 (talk) 11:30, 17 May 2011 (UTC))Reply

suggested addition

edit
  • In May 2011 Williams former partner told the Herald on Sunday that she had suffered domestic abuse during her relationship with the singer. Williams expressed regret for his mistakes and apologised. As a result of the story Williams felt unable to continue in his position as one of Aukland's fifteen ambassadors for the Rugby World Cup and stood down..[1][2]

One issue here is that the biography details in the article are so minimal, if they could be expanded some then this issue would not carry so much weight in the article. One of the reasons I would lean to inclusion is the fact that he has himself apparently acepted the story and apologised and the other being that there was a specific reaction in his life by him stepping down as an ambassador - reasons for not inclusion would be , no charges and not even a police complaint. Please comment any objections to this addition. Article is unlocked in a few hours. Off2riorob (talk) 14:45, 17 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I have an objection. Domestic abuse is not something that should just be brushed away. It is how I heard of this man.
He put up a massive PR attempt after the revelations, appearing on 60 Minutes or one of those shows, and I suspect many of the deletions of this information were actually from his publicists. The comment in his intro should stay, as it what makes him famous. We don't censor Graham Capill's introduction because it paints him in a bad light do we?
Instead of deleting parts of the article, you should feel free to add something. But to try and minimise his spousal abuse is actually quite sickening. Tristanb (talk) 00:09, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Biography section

edit

I'm not familiar with this LP. The biography section appears to be poorly sourced and written. --Pete (talk) 13:19, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
