Players and coaches lists

Can we improve on those lists? Right now, they are a bit unwieldy and don't provide much info. Here's what I propose:

• Current players - add country flags and their clubs, i.e. (country flag) Player name (Club name)
• Notable former players - add country flags, club(s) they've played for, years, i.e. (country flag) Player name - Club name (199x-199x), Club name (199x-200x)
• Famous coaches - Do we need this? Seems like that should be left to individual club articles
• Former coaches - I think we have good info here, but we can streamline the style, i.e. (country flag) Coach name - Club name (199x-199x). Also, I'm thinking the red linked coaches aren't really notable enough to be on tis list.

I don't have the time to do the above right now, but I would appreciate if I can get any comments and suggestioins, or if someone could get started. Thanks in advance. Ytny 18:16, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Division separation

Should we have a separate page for J1 and J2, preferrably leaving J. League page to carry the history of the league and J1 and J2 each to describe the current tables/be an archive link to season tables? Surge79uwf 05:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I do not think we really need to divid the two divisions; however I am planing to make one page for one season to describe what what were the final standing and the season summary from that year, with these title "2006 J. League Season" and so on. What's your thoughts?

Proper punctuation of league name

Isn't the proper punctuation without the space after the period? SWalkerTTU 08:15, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Depends... Official site seems not very consistent. And Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) demands to follow the standard rules of punctuation, though I'm not sure it matters here. --Fukumoto 15:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Judging from the J.League's English site, it's about 50-50 with the space and without, though I've seen where Japanese treatment of English spelling and punctuation rules can sometimes be rather lax. (No offense intended). SWalkerTTU 04:40, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

2007 J-League Teams

Thinking of adding an extra column to the current table of teams to display a historical average crowd. There's space for it and it'd be a useful statistic to gauge the teams popularity relative to each other. ShizuokaSensei 02:57, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I've put the attendance figures in the season articles. One thing to keep in mind about the averages is that some teams have a significant drop when they are relegated (see Verdy or Kobe between 2005 and J._League_-_2006#Attendance), while others don't (Kyoto or Sendai from 2003 to 2004). I think the J.League site keeps two separate tables for each team, for when they are in J2 or J1. So, maybe two columns in this table would be good, too? Neier 05:57, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Good point there. Will have a look at getting both figures in there. If it looks too crowded I may leave it. If the information is in the season articles already it wouldn't be a big loss. Original Ten

Have just clocked the recent edit: "Shimizu S-Pulse (promoted from the Tokai Regional League as it fulfilled J. League criteria)." Now I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure S-Pulse never competed in the Tokai League. As far as I'm aware, S-Pulse were formed in 1991 and went straight into the J. League the following year. I may be wrong, but I've never seen any evidence of them being a member of the regional league before that. Lets Enjoy Life (talk) 23:32, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

OK, I'm going to removed the reference until such time as we can verify it. As far as I know, S-Pulse were formed in 1991, played their first game in July 1992, and were elected part of the new J. League the same year. I can't find any reference anywhere to Tokai league participation, even when they were known as Shimizu FC. --Lets Enjoy Life (talk) 04:29, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Major Changes in the article

This article just received B rating. And it took about three years of work to get into current piece. Before a major change, please always talk in the discussion page first. I don't mind the changes, and in fact, if it is something that will make the rating higher, I am willing to go with that. But before you do so, don't forget to discuss it here and see what other people think.

You had an chart of league system and a map of J1 clubs, but things like this changes annually with promotion and relegation, thus it may not be a good idea to put it in the main J. League pages. This is why we have links, because it is easier to change just one page, then changes multiple pages. As far as map is concerned, there should be a map for each season of J. league, that could be improved i.e. J. League 2008

However, I have included your J. League championship chart on the right, and also I have removed the list of players & manager from old design, because all the data has been replaced to appropriate players/manager pages. Eventually, it may be good idea to combine that into one page (just an idea).....

Season schedule and general revision

Hello everyone! According to this article from The Japan Times, it looks like the federation is once again considering to switch the J. League's schedule to the fall-spring format, in line with most of the UEFA-affiliated leagues. I think this bits of information could definitely be notable enough for the league's article, but I don't know if we should create a whole new section solely dedicated to the debate, since I imagine it's been quite a long-standing dispute...

On a side note, I also wanted to address that the article likely needs more citations than it currently has, as well as a general revision.
