Notability edit

Coming across this article, I am concerned that its subject is not notable and thus may not meet WP:BIO. He appears to have been a participant in a number of engagements of WWII but not in a leadership capacity nor did he receive any high honours. The only citations are to books authored by the subject, there are no independent sources (a citation tag has been present since April 2020). A quick Google Book source finds a couple of books that mention him, but only in the context of his experiences at Midway and these appear to be sourced back to his own books. I see that a reasonable amount of work has gone into the article so hopefully there is something that can be saved here but for now I have added a notability tag to the article and may consider nominating it for deletion in the near future. It indeed took me quite some effort to research the topic and write the article, so I hope the article can be saved. Regarding the citations, I have now added more references to independent citations. Regarding notability, he did release the torpedo that eventually sunk USS California (BB-44). He might not officially received any honours for his actions, however, unlike in other countries' armed forces at the time, in Imperial Japanese military individual honours were extremely rare to begin with. Nevertheless, I would say that sinking another's country capital ship in action alone should be notable enough. I stressed this now in the introduction text.
