Perhaps someone who knows could explain why he is known (here at least) as Jérôme Lalande, not Joseph? In correspondence relating to his relationship with Philibert Commerson he seems to be known as Joseph. Millichip (talk) 10:37, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

This source about Cook say: "When Cook got back to Europe," Trevor says, "a French mathematician, Lalanne, using Cook's data, calculated the Earth-sun distance to be 153 million kilometres.
