The Ivan Franko Museum in Winnipeg, Canada is unique — which was established in 1956 to mark the 100th anniversary of Franko’s birth (1856 - 1936) — is the only one in the world outside Ukraine dedicated to this outstanding Ukrainian artist and patriot. It is the only museum in the Americas.

This museum is dedicated to the life and works of the great Ukrainian poet, writer, educator and humanitarian, Ivan Franko…a foremost proponent of freedom and democracy for Ukrainian people in one united sovereign state - UKRAINE - which in his lifetime (the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th Century) was divided between Austria and Russia.

Historian and economist, ethnographer and folklorist, philosopher and art critic, he also became a brilliant poet, writer; people’s tribune in their struggle for unity and the achievement of a free, democratic, friendly and peaceful world.

Ivan Franko is the most outstanding author of Ukraine, second only to that poet of genius - Taras Shevchenko.

I Franko wrote many poems and novels, articles and essays in various newspapers and magazines about the early emigrants from Western Ukraine, condemning the conditions that forced people to abandon their beloved country and seek employment in foreign lands where they were confronted with bigotry, degradation, extreme exploitation and other abuses. This is the reason Franko is held in such high esteem by people of Ukrainian descent living in Canada, many of whom trace their origins to Western parts of Ukraine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Veech409 (talkcontribs) 21:58, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
