Improving the article edit

I have added a few more art pieces that Navarro has done in most recent years. I was wondering if any of you had any ideas on how to divide up the article? I was thinking we could add more details on his works of art besides just listing the titles out. Like a couple sentences for each or more? I added his piece that is on display at the Nelson and I added His instillation that was on display in 2014 at Madison Square Park. I also added several more notes in my own sandbox about these things with several URLs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pttbarnum (talkcontribs) 01:08, 22 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

I think adding a brief summary for each piece would be great! 1-2 sentences. We should also pick out a couple important pieces to write a paragraph about. Good idea adding his piece that is displayed at the Nelson. There aren't many headings and subheadings on the article. It makes the page seem disorganized and too sparse. Let's try to look at well developed artist pages and see what kinds of headings they use.Rrb41700 (talk) 00:55, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Here's a link and citation of Navarro's piece at the Nelson. I can't figure out how to add an image without being copyrighted: https://art.nelson-atkins.org/objects/66953/untitled-the-nelsonatkins-museum-of-art;jsessionid=7C3CA6E6088246E583E2A59C4B3E1662?ctx=f17fa13c-0388-4521-bd6d-51fd8f25f3d5&idx=0

Update: I tried adding a photo of our artist and the piece at the Nelson. I uploaded them to the Wikimedia Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ivan-Navarro-_in-the-studio_-2017_-by-Thelma-Garcia.jpg#file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2017-45-1-2_Navarro-Untitled-view1.png Rrb41700 (talk) 20:02, 29 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I have set up a WP:DAB page to disambiguate from the retired Spanish tennis player. There is at least one book about Navarro (the artist), which I have added as "Further reading".
Note that dry, boring listings of collections are nearly useless to readers. Although it still needs further work, the article on Niki de Saint Phalle has much more informative sections on "Exhibitions" and "Public art", for example. If there is a listing of artworks, it should be annotated with brief descriptions. I don't mean the usual boring lists of ingredients (such as fluorescent tubes, mirrors, steel, wood, plastic sheeting, etc), but instead a one-line description of what makes the artwork unique and noteworthy. It is has been hard to add media files. I try to upload to wiki media but it gives me three different URLS and I am unsure how to make the picture stay within a thumbnail — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pttbarnum (talkcontribs) 03:47, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

There are a few problems with your recent edits to the article:
  1. The photos you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and added to the article may have copyright restrictions. I haven't looked into this, but don't be surprised if you get deletion notices. Read Commons:Licensing before you try to upload more pictures.
  2. You are adding footnotes, which is very commendable, but you seem to be formatting them in an improvised manual way, unaware of the Wikipedia tools that make this easier. I have put onto your Talk page a message about some efficient methods to use templates for references.
  3. The formatting of your additions doesn't follow the WP:MOS in various ways; I can fix this, but you really should look at the way things are formatted and understand the MOS before you change any already existing formatting.
  4. Wikipedia doesn't encourage writing low-content text just to fill space. The "Personal life" section just repeats what is already said elsewhere; the only value added is the new footnote reference.
  5. You aren't using edit summaries to explain your work. I have put onto your Talk page a message about edit summaries, explaining what they are and why you should use them.
  6. You should sign anything you say on a Talk page (not in the article itself!). You do this by typing "~~~~" at the end of your comments.
There is lot to learn to become a fluent Wikipedia editor. Don't be discouraged; there is a lot of help available online and from other editors. Reify-tech (talk) 14:56, 11 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
