Itapecuru Formation - obsolete, replaced by Itapecuru Group edit

According to Candeiro et al. (2011) "Continental fossil vertebrates from the mid-Cretaceous (Albian–Cenomanian) Alcântara Formation, Brazil, and their relationship with contemporaneous faunas from North Africa", Journal of African Earth Sciences, Volume 60, DOI:10.1016/j.jafrearsci.2011.02.004, page 83, "the former 'Itapecuru Formation' is now known as the Itapecuru Group, and its Lower Cretaceous deposits have been divided between the Albian 'Undifferentiated Unit' and the Albian–Cenomanian Alcântara Formation." The term 'Itapecuru Formation' appears to still be in use as of Ferreira et al (2016) "Palynological and sedimentary analysis of the Igarapé Ipiranga and Querru 1 outcrops of the Itapecuru Formation (Lower Cretaceous, Parnaíba Basin), Brazil" Journal of South American Earth Sciences, Volume 66 DOI:10.1016/j.jsames.2015.12.005. The most most recent stratigraphic lexicon for Brazil, for which I have seen citations, was published in 1984. Therefore, it seems likely to me that any revisions after 1984 may still be proposed/informal/unofficial and it would make sense to leave this article as it is until a newer more definitive official source may be found.
By the way, Wikipedia's article on the Alcântara Formation (which was not so named until 1997) seems to have adopted the stratigraphy (Itapecuru Group) mentioned by Candeiro et al. (2011). I think this probably makes Wikipedia's "Itapecuru Formation" and "Alcântara Formation" articles contradictory. GeoWriter (talk) 11:14, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I definitely think the difference in nomenclature should be mentioned on both articles, but I don't think that any article names should be changed for the moment Hemiauchenia (talk) 11:53, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
