Meaning of affiliated with an Italian citizen edit

What does affiliated with an Italian citizen mean? Is that a euphemism for common law marriage or gay civil unions? Mediterraneo 17:33, 30 September 2006 (UTC)MediterraneoReply

I corrected it per the consulate's website: http://www.conslondra.esteri.it/Consolato_Londra/Templates/Pagina_Interna.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={60C4A441-7112-48E3-946F-FDBA4A642070}&NRORIGINALURL=%2fConsolato_Londra%2fMenu%2fI_Servizi%2fPer_i_cittadini%2fCittadinanza%2f&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest The word on the Italian version of the site is "affiliato" which was probably translated to "the affiliated" by a user; however, the English version of the consulate's website clearly states that 7-year residency applies to an "adoptee of an Italian national". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.180.24.25 (talk) 13:48, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Eligibility of Italian citizens by marriage for national political positions edit

Whether anybody becoming an Italian citizen by marrying an Italian Citizen is eligible to become

  1. A senator or a member of Parliament of Italy
  2. Prime Minister of Italy
  3. President of Italy

A legally correct answer with supporting clauses, articles in the constitution is expected. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.95.3.158 (talk) 14:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not a lawyer, certainly not an Italian lawyer, but it seems to me that the answer to your question lies in articles 3, 51, 56, 57, 84, and 92 of the Constitution of Italy as seen at http://www.servat.unibe.ch/icl/it00000_.html
Question: Does this relate somehow to a contemplated improvement in the article? If not, please see WP:NOTFORUM. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 22:58, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not edit

I know this article is great, and well written, but not necessarily for wikipedia. this would make a great web page, but it is NOT a good encyclopedia article.

Please, editors, consult the guidelines and adapt this page accordingly. "Wikipedia is not a manual, guidebook, textbook, or scientific journal".

I thought about this whether the article contradicts the "Wikipedia is not a manual ..." concept. The article does not read like a manual because it does not instruct a person on how to satisfy the Italian citizenship requirements. The documents section could potentially lead somebody in the right direction. Still I know that the article omits many practical details on the subject, of interest to any person wanting an acknowledgment or acquisition of Italian citizenship. I could only advise people interested in this to look elsewhere for more specifics.

It does not advise anybody, so it is not a guidebook. The article is clearly too short to be a textbook. It is not like a scientific journal either, as it does not describe a hypothesis to be tested. Besides, Wikipedia hosts many other nationality law articles, so the topic appears acceptable to the community.Corwin78 (talk) 23:16, 17 February 2011 (UTC) My name has changed from Corwin78 to Italick. I can see where the article may have an unencylopedic tone. It makes excessive use of the second person, possibly implying that the reader wants Italian citizenship and seeks help by reading the article.Corwin78 (talk) 06:50, 19 February 2011 (UTC)My name has changed from Corwin78 to Italick. Adoption edit

I'm curious. Though it's an unusual case (and she doesn't want Italian citizenship anyways), I know a girl whose father was born in Italy, but adopted as the legal child of US citizens (meaning his legal parents would not be Italian). Hypothetically does anyone know if she would be eligible for Italian citizenship by descent? Quintucket (talk) 18:59, 9 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I hope that my latest update to the article helps to clarify this situation. There are so many rules, and exceptions to these rules, and limits on the time intervals over which they apply that it is hardly possible to make any short categorical statement in their respect.

I do want to note that if the said adopted father acquired US citizenship as a minor and while living with adoptive parents who were never Italian, then this acquiring of US citizenship should not have caused him to lose Italian citizenship.

A minor could not lose Italian citizenship since 1912 by naturalizing in his or her own free will, because the minor did not have the legal competence in the view of Italian laws. The rule sometimes causing a minor to lose Italian citizenship through parents only functioned when the parents with whom the child lived were former possessors of Italian citizenship.Corwin78 (talk) 15:31, 14 March 2012 (UTC) My name has changed from Corwin78 to Italick. I will add that the rule about adults (and adults only) losing their citizenship through naturalization in their free will was article 8 of law 555 of 1912, and the rule about minor children losing their citizenship through their formerly Italian parents was article 12 of law 555 of 1912. Cool, thanks. If this girl ever changes her mind, I'll let her know. I may let her know anyways next time I see her, just because. —Quintucket (talk) 16:10, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
