The lyrics will be public domain in 2030 in the U.S. Because they were published before 1978, U.S. copyright law states that they enter the public domain after 95 years, regardless of the creator's date of death.

DuBose Heyward

Some sources also credit DuBose Heyward as co-writer on this song (and in fact Porgy and Bess as a whole). Anyone know if Heyward should be added? SageGreenRider (talk) 00:32, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Controversy

There is this statement that the song is controversial for casting doubt on the veracity of the Bible. Citation needed. Hmm, I remember to have read something about it. Even that some Christian Schools would forbid the song to be performed or so. But I can't find anything about it via Google. Do you have any evidence? It would be great! Hall Johnson's opinion of the song does not rise to the level of controversy; it's one person's opinion. I'll rename this section "Criticism" and remove the unsourced comments about the Bible.
