August 2007 deletions and tidy up edit
I deleted a number of entries:
- those such as "The Island, local name for the Isle of Wight", with a similar entry for Vancouver Island: it is common practice for the inhabitants of any island to refer to it as 'the island', and these entries play no role in directing people to the right article, whihc is the function of a disambiguation page
- entries for specific named islands such as Manitoulin Island as per MOS:DAB style guidelines; there is a link to List of islands under See also.
- entries with no links to any wiki articles referring to them and little prospect, on notability grounds, of such articles being created.

HMNB Portsmouth edit
Her Majesty`s Naval Base at Portsmouth is referred to as "The Island". Kathleen.wright5 07:19, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
July 20 2022 Deletions edit
A great many entries were deleted on July 20, 2022, including Michael Bay's 2005 movie. Why? "The Island" redirects here, which adds to the confusion. 2601:644:8D80:6E00:807F:AC0F:738E:2EC0 (talk) 07:12, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
