This article focuses on a study which aims at analyzing the depiction of Muslims in the media and the consequence of Islamophobia in mass media. It discusses stereotyping of Muslims and explores Muslim perceptions of media effects on their collective self-esteem. It concludes that media portrayals of Muslims has affected their acculturation and marginalization.

The goal of this study is to determine the possible factors leading to increased Islamophobia through an examination of public opinion in the United States and Europe. Include more examples of how Islam is not properly represented in film, television, newspapers, etc. I was able to find a couple of scholarly articles that relate to this, one of which centers on how two leading U.S magazines represent Afghanistan, and another that talks about a movie, The Seige, and how it portrays Muslims in a negative light.

Hi, this is a great article! A couple of suggestions I have would be to expand a little on the header section. Some variety in definitions and a context to the discussion would be helpful. Time for a Name Change???

Any wiki pros out there think maybe I should change this to "Islamophobia in Western media?" It dawned on me that Indonesian news agencies probably don't spend much time sensationalizing or editorializing their Islam-related news. Just a thought...NumberFiveIsAlive (talk) 23:12, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

• Hi NumberFiveIsAlive. I think Islamophobia in Western media might be ok, but it is likely that the focus on western media is both due to acutal instances of islamophobia (and articles written about it) and the lack of coverage (in english) of non-western media. The anglosphere (and non-english european media) works in a field of inward looking organizations and scholars--Editor and publisher and the CJR are just two examples of organizations that we may be familiar with but whose non-western counterparts may be hidden from us. In that case it may be better to leave the title and see if future editors will add different examples or studies.

Hi, there. I was looking to add some information on media personalities like Frank Gaffney and Melanie Phillips. Additionally, I would like to expand upon how social media plays role in perpetuating islamophobia. Specifically with sites like Facebook, twitter, and even anonymous commentators merits discussion, as well as how 9/11 impacted the way news media covers events dealing with the Islamic population. This could include wording, disproportionate news coverage on some terrorist incidents but not others.

@Dmazero: Hold on. As you are new, you are not likely to be aware of our core policies, one of which is no original research. This means that you can't discuss these issues using examples, you need to find sources meeting WP:RS discussing these issues. This article focuses on the portrayal of Muslims by the media in mainly the United States and Europe. However, Asia, having the highest Muslim population in the world, still experiences Islamophobia through the media in certain parts of the continent. Re-wrote the lead-in paragraph

Hello all, I saw this article needed a new lead paragraph/section considering the previous one was two sentences, so I wrote one up. Figured it was good enough to remove the "short lead in" flag at the top of the article, but that's just my personal judgement.
