The Quote edit

"There is no a-historical Islam that is outside the process of historical development." Isn't this a truism? What's the point? Arrow740 11:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article is on relation between Islam and Modernity. This is the intro that at least two of the sources (in the external link) give at the beginning. It is a stub, the relevence will hopefully become more clear. --Aminz 11:27, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's certainly a very interesting topic. Arrow740 11:32, 12 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't appear to be an appropriate topic for an encyclopedia. Arrow740 09:52, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
This looks like the beginning of a POV essay.Proabivouac 18:07, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Paper edit

This looks like a very good collection of scholarly papers: [1]. TruthSpreaderreply 09:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

These two topics are related. This article has a strongly cited history section, but the second part sounds like a POV essay. The other article actually mentions some philosophers, but could use better citation. That said, these two articles seem pretty compatible. So long as they don't just get into *recent* Muslim philosophy, both of them deal with the efforts of philosophers to reconcile Islam with human rights, science, economics, and modern civics. As it stands now, Islam and modernity focuses on history, and has a brief editorial section. This page actually mentions some philosophers. One focuses on the history of ideas, this one focuses on the ideas themselves. They are two sides of the same coin, even if the citation is still needed. 67.71.1.93 03:59, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I removed the tag. Refert to Talk:Contemporary Islamic philosophy.--Seyyed(t-c) 12:23, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Christianity and modernity edit

There should perhaps be an article on Christianity and modernity, an issue that the Roman Catholic Church took a long time to resolve, an issue which was mostly settled during the time of the Second Vatican Council. ADM (talk) 20:53, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Good idea, but I suspect this is not the best place to post it. Perhaps on the religion portal talk page? BrainyBabe (talk) 17:13, 20 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merger vote edit

  • Oppose - As BoogaLouie notes, these two articles, while possessing similar names, are about very different subjects. B14709 (talk) 15:20, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Islamic Modernism problems edit

As noted in an edit summary, I searched the book: Watson, The Modern Mind, 2001, thinking it might be useful for the Islamic Modernist article and found not one mention of the word "islamic" and only one of "Muslim". In short it has to do with Modernism in the Muslim world but not "Islamic Modernism" which is about (among other things) providing and intellectually consistent reconciliation between Islamic beliefs with Modern knowledge. Consequently I did a lot of moving of text out of the Islamic Modernism section. --BoogaLouie (talk) 20:38, 6 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
