Strait of Magellan

edit

(Transferred from User talk:Gadfium)

Could you explain the reason for put POV in the edit summary field? Jespinos 16:34, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The edit was made by someone who was removing Argentina or Peru from a number of articles, obviously with the intention of promoting Chile. See [1]-gadfium 18:22, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agree with most of your reversions. I disagree with your opinion on Porvenir, you have to determine the relative importance of the towns. Puerto Williams do not form part of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, this is the true motive for the reversion. On another point, I suppose there are no sovereignty doubts over the Strait of Magellan. Jespinos 23:03, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
If you wish to restore selected edits, go ahead. You are most likely in a better position than I am to determine what is correct.-gadfium 23:14, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merger with Tierra del Fuego

edit

I suggest a merge because this article , Isla Grande de Tierra del Fueg], has a good userbox, but no information like Tierra del Fuego, and the articles are intended to do the same job. Comments? Spencer (talk) 01:59, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discusion should be kept in one place at Talk:Tierra del Fuego#Merger with Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego. PrimeHunter 02:20, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Climate

edit

The section on climate is lacking all the figures. E.g. "Isla de los Estados [...] receives of rain. Rainfall is heavier in the west, a year." How much rain? (Same for the temperatures.) Maybe someone who knows could add the missing information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.243.253.116 (talk)

Google Translate

edit

It appears that Wikipedia editors are now being replaced by Google Translate, such as in this case: "Isla de los Estados, east of Ushuaia, receives of rain. Rainfall is heavier in the west, a year. Temperatures are steady throughout the year: in Ushuaia they hardly surpass in summers and average in winters." I, for one, welcome our Google Translate Overlords.

Change name of article to "Tierra del Fuego (main island)"

edit

This article should be headed "Tierra del Fuego (main island)" to bring it into line with similar articles such as Cuba (main island), Iceland (main island), Sri Lanka (main island), Tasmania (main island), New Caledonia (main island), etc. Wikipedians shouldn't presume that users can understand languages other than the language that the article is written in.StonePeter (talk) 18:06, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted your change, since none of those "similar articles" actually exist: Cuba (main island), Iceland (main island), Sri Lanka (main island), Tasmania (main island), New Caledonia (main island). Although I do agree that we should not presume readers understand languages other than English, that does not mean we should actively avoid actual proper names of non-English places. -- Black Falcon (talk) 17:39, 6 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
