Ipomoea Project edit

I've took the liberty on making an Ipomoea wikiproject. It's still in a proposal stage but if we have enough people joining the project and editting the page,we'll be able to make it into a complete project. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals/Project_Ipomoea

Psychoactivity edit

I don't know how to make a comment on a page, so please forgive me if I am quite out of order here. I wanted to query the remark: "...this is not supported by scientific studies which show that although pyschoactive these compounds are not notably psychoactive or hallucinogenic." Does it mean that they are somewhat, but not very psychoactive? Otherwise it looks like a bit of a contradiction. I am not an expert, I just happened to be looking up the decorative varieties of this flower when this item caught my eye. Again, I apologise if this is the wrong way to go about things. Hey David. I Suggest putting a 'Citation Needed' tag on that sentence you found. Unless you can reword it better. Nessie (talk) 23:13, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try to do that. I appreciate the courteous advice.Dawright12 (talk) 20:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Different species edit

Please look at the following links regarding clarifying the misapprehensions between the 2 completely different species of Ipomoea tricolor and Ipomoea violacea

Ipomoea tricolor Cav = Ipomoea violacea auct. http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?20231

Ipomoea violacea auct. = misapplied by authors http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?406360

Ipomoea violacea L. - I recently induced the USDA to remove any reference to 'heavenly blue' from the legitimate Ipomoea violacea entry http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?20238

The references in literature to the psychoactivity of Ipomoea violacea are almost always in reference to Ipomoea violacea as auct. and as such are not really in reference to Ipomoea violacea (L) as a distinct legitimate species from Ipomoea tricolor.

scroll down the main entry page to see Ron_Convolvulaceae's (my) comments http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57559/

The 2 different species are not closely related enough to form inter-specific hybrids and nowhere are any true-inter-specific hybrids between I.tricolor and I.violacea documented. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.80.251.196 (talk) 05:49, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Name error? edit

It seems that there is an error with the caption of "Ipomoea oenthenarae" and the corresponding wikimedia http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ipomoea_oenthenarae_habit.jpg. The correct name should be "Ipomoea oenotherae". This is the name used in the "list of species".

On the German page http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipomoea_oenotherae, the very same picture is found with the name "Ipomoea oenotherae". This name exsists both in IPNI and Tropicos databases. Conversely, "Ipomoea oenthenarae" is found only within wikipedia and wikpmedia pages…

I am no more than a vistor, and I am not a specialist of Ipomoea. Could somebody solve this problem?

The caption has been amended and the image is now at File:Ipomoea oenotherae habit.jpg.--Melburnian (talk) 11:47, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
