Name edit

There are multiple problems with this name. First and foremost, it's demonstrably not the WP:COMMONNAME for this game. A search for "Iowa State" Farmageddon returns all of 14 hits in the Google News archives and no relevant hits in Google Books, none from before 2009. Meanwhile, "Iowa State vs. Kansas State" returns over 6,000 hits. Other related variants return even more hits, showing that descriptive names are more appropriate. Additionally, the name "Farmageddon" isn't unique to Iowa State vs. Kansas State even within college football; it has also been used for the Iowa-Nebraska game.[1] It's also the name of a comic and a documentary film. As such, this awkward nickname is imprecise and not very recognizable to the reader. I plan on moving the page to Iowa State–Kansas State football rivalry and adding sources.--Cúchullain t/c 19:58, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Done. I also expanded the article a bit.--Cúchullain t/c 11:23, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Concur good move. It is (and should be) still mentioned in the article but definitely should not be the name of the article. Nicely done.--Paul McDonald (talk) 11:39, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. After doing some more reading it appears the "Farmageddon" name was used to promote the Kansas City games, and it hasn't been used much if at all since then, though clearly the teams still played in 2011 (and will play again in 2012). As such it's really not an appropriate article title.--Cúchullain t/c 12:16, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Name Revisited edit

I think changing the name back to "Iowa State--Kansas State football rivalry" was probably the right call in 2011, but since that time the name "Farmageddon" has really caught on. Leading up to the game each year fans use the hashtag #farmageddon. Also a google search over "Iowa State Farmageddon" now turns up over 11,000 hits. It may have been coined by the KC Star, but I think it's fair to say that this is now the common name for this rivalry. The title of the article should reflect that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:449:8280:5EC7:A004:EAA6:C0E7:D9AA (talk) 02:54, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

I agree that the article title should be “Farmageddon”, for all of the reasons listed and also because it’s how Wikipedia treats numerous articles. There are several articles listed on List of NCAA college football rivalry games whose titles are the game nicknames. The first such game on the list, 100 Miles of Hate, explicitly acknowledges that 100 Miles of Hate is the UNOFFICIAL nickname! The same standards should be applied here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.46.12.119 (talk) 03:13, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
