Sources to the film's allegedly box-office failure in the US?

The article claims, based on Bill Warren's book, that the film was not commercially successful in the US. But Warren here is misquoted. In the book, he only writes that the film "couldn't have been very profitable in America". According to the Karel Zeman Museum, the film is the most successful Czech film to date, and was shown in 92 theatres in New York alone on its opening night.
