Um did you read the part that says intersex occurs in gonochoric species and that there are intersex males or intersex females. So I don’t understand the whole idea around dichotomy.CycoMa (talk) 21:01, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

The intended point is that in taxa with male-female sex systems, the biological processes of sexual differentiation do not produce true dichotomy, although a practical degree of dichotomy is typical and human cognitive ontologic models often represent it as a dichotomy. I just don't have time to work on this, though. I was just trying to do some low-hanging fruit rapidly in passing. Not in the cards today. Quercus solaris (talk) 21:06, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Um gonochorism by it’s exact definition literally means a species has either a male or female sex. Plus I have seen sources that have mentioned something about gonochorism a dichotomy. It’s just best to stick to what the sources on a topic actually say instead of using your own interpretation of what they say.CycoMa (talk) 21:09, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Nothing to do with "my interpretations", everything to do with how MRKH, for example, produces nondichotomous outcomes, in whatever words one might say that semantic fact. It's a great example because notions like "every individual has either male or female tract anatomy [absolute dichotomy]" or "every female has a vagina [no exceptions exist]" or "can't be female if no vagina" are mental models rather than the modeled reality. MRKH has often been classed among the intersex conditions (as the table under intersex § prevalence reflects), but yes it is always 46,XX, so the model of "XX female with hypoplastic or aplastic development (variable across instances; hypogenesis or agenesis)" is sensible and includes MRKH in female. Article should include more phylogenetic groups

Article includes succinct definition of intersex across the history of life, but does not include the full spectrum of instances of intersex (e.g., intersex in invertebrates other than nematodes); article makes it seem that intersex occurs only in mammals, nematodes, fishes, and crustaceans. The mammal section overemphasizes Vanuatu pigs, while social context of intersexuality is important to consider, considerably more information is provided than what is relevant especially considering which species are absent from this discussion. Albeit irrelevant to this conversation of more examples of intersexes, article does not relate instances of intersex within the context of the evolutionary development of sexes.
