@Ratherous: could you add the statements here too Braganza (talk) 11:21, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Dainshku and CoryGlee: could you add the Dominican Republic and maybe PLD Braganza (talk) 19:13, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the source for Turkey: while it does say that Turkey will support Venezuela "as in the past", which since Turkey has previously supported Maduro would imply continued support for Maduro, should a more explicit source be used to say that Turkey recognizes the official results? I'm not super familiar with the ins and outs of WP:SYNTH. Placeholderer (talk) 17:47, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think Turkey should be colored as "Not stated" on the map for now. As mentioned, the source currently used doesn't recognize Maduro, and also Turkey's presidential website has made no statement on Venezuela since the election. I haven't found any good source outlining Turkey's reaction to the official results. (Also should points/questions like this about the map be made under this section, under "Map", or a new section for each one?) Placeholderer (talk) 21:55, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Map

edit

The map has a small mistake. Bahrein is painted in green when it should be Qatar right next to it. Gomes89 (talk) 15:50, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Non-UN countries

edit

I believe having Western Sahara, Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the same category as other countries does not make sense. These are territories mostly unrecognized by the vast majority of the World and should be in a category of their own. Gomes89 (talk) 23:55, 3 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

we should add a disclaimer maybe
like: Venezuela is among the few countries which recognize XY.
but i would let them stay in the continents they currently are Braganza (talk) 09:10, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I agree, maybe just put them at the end of the Continent list and not in alphabitcal order. Also put the names in Italic.
Anyone disgrees or has other ideas? Gomes89 (talk) 15:41, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
For what it's worth, articles on international recognition of partially recognized states seem to have other partially recognized states in a separate category, like for Kosovo ("Other states and entities"), Palestine ("Not members of the UN", within "Diplomatic recognitions" or "No diplomatic recognition"), and Abkhazia and South Ossetia ("Partially recognized states" and "Former partially recognized states"). After realizing I should look for more reaction articles instead of recognition ones I see that reactions to the 2019 crisis has them under "Non-UN states". However, these articles don't break down countries by continent.
Should this article break down the reactions by continent in the first place? If it didn't, it would be more straightforward to put partially recognized state reactions in a different category Placeholderer (talk) 23:26, 5 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Placeholderer: where would we place Taliban-Afghanistan? Braganza (talk) 06:00, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Braganza Going by de facto recognition they have a comparable amount of recognition to Western Sahara and much more than Abkhazia/South Ossetia, so I think it would be appropriate to include them (as Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan) in whatever "other" states category. But since they aren't very communicative about foreign policy we might not have to worry about it. If for some reason both the Taliban and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan give conflicting positions, then there might be an issue (IDK where to look for precedent about that sort of thing) Placeholderer (talk) 13:44, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
i doubt there was any precedent Braganza (talk) 14:11, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Dustfreeworld: you clearly know what happened, instead of creating empty sections you should add at least the information you add in the notifications Braganza (talk) 11:38, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. Thanks for the ping. All Wikipedia editors are volunteers. IMO it’s up to the editors to decide whether they want to add the information themselves, and that’s one of the reasons why the expand section tag has the “with=“ parameter. Further, I added the links as potential source, which is to help the editors who are interested in expanding the sections, but they can choose to use their own (better) source as well. Thanks. --Dustfreeworld (talk) 17:14, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
no offense but you shouldn't just add sections and expect others to do it for you Braganza (talk) 17:50, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
there are other ways to do it, like start a discussion or Template:Missing information Braganza (talk) 17:53, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
No offence too.
According to your principal,
‘you shouldn't just add “Template:Missing information” and expect others to do it for you’
Further, I’m not expecting *you* to fill in the information, I hope *you* aren’t expecting *me* to do that as well. Please note that Wikipedia is a collaborative project. Everyone do what they think they are good at. If you can spend the time to expand the sections, that’s great. If not, I won’t blame you for that. Similarly, please don’t blame me for providing information for others to improve the article (better yet, I expect people like you can click WP:THANKS to thank my edits).
I’m quite busy these days and I hope I don’t have to spend the time replying to this discussion anymore.
Thanks.
PS. If you think the tags are ugly, perhaps you should talk to the tech people instead ... --Dustfreeworld (talk) 18:28, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dustfreeworld Hi, how are you? Can you remove Pope Francis? It's already added under his sovereign state (the Vatican/Holy See). Thanks. --CoryGlee (talk) 18:52, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Done. Thanks for the reminder. I didn’t notice that :) --Dustfreeworld (talk) 19:06, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you add empty sections and don't have the time to add the info, you EXPECT others to do so indirectly, not someone directly but you expect somebody will do it at some point
I will change it so its properly and more appealing to look at Braganza (talk) 19:15, 6 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
It seems that there’s language barrier. I don’t understand what’s your meaning of “indirectly” or “directly”. Perhaps you would like to nominate Template:Expand section and Template:Empty section for deletion.
The problem now is that people (especially newer or inexperienced users) may not know where to put the information (and even you had wrongly added the reaction of a country to the section that I started). They may not know how to start new sections as well.
I don’t think it’s now more appealing after your change. The huge tag on the top of the page now is *appalling* IMO.
You may want to review WP:NOBLANKING. --Dustfreeworld (talk) 08:55, 10 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

North Korea

edit

@Ratherous: could you remove it; NK News: Maduro’s illiberal allies — including China, Russia and Iran — were quick to recognize his win, yet North Korea has been notably silent on the result, with no state media reports on the election or letter of congratulations from Kim Jong Un. (2 August) Braganza (talk) 05:19, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Poland's Response

edit

Why does this article's map display that Poland "Do not recognize/Asks for verification" as oppose to "EU rejection without national response"? Poland is not mentioned on this page anywhere else. Where is the source??? 2600:1008:A12A:3122:D432:8A26:854B:1EBB (talk) 07:33, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reactions

edit

@SandyGeorgia: if Maduro posts the official document he was congratulated him, you can't really argue that's unreliable imo Braganza (talk) 05:15, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

If we assume a tweeted image from Maduro is valid? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 05:18, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
accusing Maduro of forging letters of mostly friendly countries is a huge stretch, most of these countries congratulated Putin too Braganza (talk) 06:26, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
