Regarding this page and beyond edit

I have greatly expanded this page from just afew rank entries to hundreds of entries in-order to reflect the most important statistically numerable fields of Iran in relation to the world's. Great pain has been taken to assure the reader gets the most updated of available data sets as well as making sure that the sources are verifiable and existent. But this in no way means absolute perfection not only in the article's edition but also in the nature of sources and their way of doing the rankings which may be unintentionally erroneous or even intentionally biased, specially in the fields which are subjective and not easily measurable by metric units. Therefore, it is left to the intelligent readers of Wikipedia to interpret the rankings, based on common sense and in relation to other data.

My main reason for expansion to include all important fields, was to have a one page, high intensity and easily readable data set which can give an accurate statistical representation of current Iran in relation to other nations. I hope we can continue to have such a page for all nations, and by maintaining those therefore have an updated human readable one page summary giving readers a fast non-speculative review of all current aspects and affairs of world's nations in minimum amount of time and browsing.

In the end I would like to recommend these as an advice to keep the page having a high standard both in quality and quantity:

  • Please use as much of Wikipedia's own material as possible. If a dedicated page on wikipedia already exists please refrain from using outside pages except where by doing so it would increase the quality of the page to the reader.
  • Please use minimum words while describing, naming or otherwise explaining in notes section. This would keep article as short as possible. Also in the interest of quality do refrain from speculative comments in notes section. If a description is warranted to make the ranking intelligible or directs the user to relevant further information, it should be done using the minimum space possible. Long descriptions and explanations should at all times be avoided, but they can always be edited into the other relevant pages of the field in discussion on Wikipedia.
  • Please avoid adding the rankings which do not serve the purpose of this page, eg. rankings of number of mice dying by country does not serve this page (as long as the world is not facing the extinction of this species), while ranking of human life-years lost due to cancer by country does.
  • Please keep the highest standards of a statistician while editing this page. Do not politicize the content anymore as many of the external sources on which this page invariably relies have political agendas, so we need less politics both on the article page as well as here on talk page.
  • Please avoid putting multiple rankings for a single field. If two or more are available, only the most comprehensive, internationally conclusive and accurate should be used.
  • Since so little data exists in English on Iran, specially by national institutes of Iranian government, Persian sources which are verifiable and statistically important as well as being non-agenda in nature are welcome.
  • Please do not edit if you are not sure of what you are doing as your "experiment" might go un-noticed in the page due to its high compactness and later on effect its quality. If you are uncertain about something or if you have suggestions then please by all means write it in this talk page so that it can be worked out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hmsvagus (talkcontribs) 02:51, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Wikipedia rules regarding all aspects of use and edit should be observed and followed at all times, whether on article itself or on talk page.

At last but not least, I hope the reader enjoys the article and benefits from the knowledge therein. Thank You! --Hmsvagus (talk) 00:48, 5 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Idea edit

Idea/comment: useful stuff but we need to have trends as well. 3 years like for world factbook data. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.116.236.229 (talk) 02:42, 1 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Broken Link edit

Real growth in total trade link returns a 404. Thought wiki had bots parsing for 404 errors on pages? http://info.worldbank.org/etools/wti2008/1a.asp — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.15.187.208 (talk) 12:08, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Information on this page do not match sources edit

Much of the information here does not match the listed sources. For example, Iran's R/P for oil is not #1 in the world according to BP. That is just original research. Poyani (talk) 21:30, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

As per the source provided in the article it is. And the source from BP is not original research neither BP claims it to be. Basically R/P ratio is a very simple concept and the data for it is available from multiple sources. The amount of oil reserves for Iran is known so is its production. Hence this is not original research. --182.185.33.243 (talk) 10:34, 5 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposal: Add Percentile Column edit

I propose we add a column to show the percentile, which is the simple (part)/(whole) arithmetic between the (rank)/(out of) columns. Thoughts? --2605:6001:E24C:A700:7076:1E71:B6A1:2206 (talk) 23:42, 11 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
