What does "latter option" refer to?

Suggest changing this sentence:

Any line-break inside a number, inside a compound unit or between number and unit should be avoided, but, if necessary, the latter option should be used.

I would edit it, but I don't know what '...but, if necessary, the latter option should be used means. rowley (talk) 17:17, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

It means that the least worst option is to make a line break between the number and the unit. On Wikipedia we never do that, because we don't justify the right edge of our text. Physchim62 (talk) 17:22, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Mass Base Unit

I think that gram should be the bas unit of mass, not kilogram. You don't say GigaKilogram, you are supposed to say gigagram. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.66.188.184 (talk) 00:23, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

The kilogram is the base unit because the General Conference on Weights and Measures says so. Also, the kilogram is combined with other units when creating derived units, for example, the watt is the derived unit of power and is equal to 1kg⋅m2⋅s-3. Jc3s5h (talk) 00:45, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
