Talk:International Seabed Authority

Discussion of controversy

edit

Besides dividing the article into sections, I added a section about the US non-ratification. This text could use specific citations describing eg. the ISA's official mandate to distribute mining profits to poor countries and to compensate countries for lost profits due to competition with seabed miners; and the specifics of the 1994 Agreement. This section is appropriate because the ISA seems to be one of the main sticking points preventing ratification by the world's foremost seafaring power, and this reluctance has directly affected the scope of the ISA's power. Should it cite back to the main LOS article's section about this dispute? -Kris Schnee 17:14, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Isalogo.gif

edit

Image:Isalogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I expanded the lead and will return in the following days to further develop this article and the controversy surrounding ISA Secretary General Michael Lodge's support for robotic exploration of the ocean floor.Marcywinograd (talk) 14:10, 19 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

I would like to abbreviate this section on the Endowment Fund, which reads like a PR piece; in fact, I think the whole section is unnecessary and could be removed. Thoughts?Marcywinograd (talk) 02:28, 22 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Leticia Carvalho elected but will not be in office before 2025

edit

@Progoees, please note that Leticia Carvalho will only be in office for the next period 2025 - 2028. Until end of this year still Michael Lodge is in charge as secretary general. As I'm not a native English speaker I leave to you or someone else to correct the information in this article and also in the one for Michael Lodge. See this reference. @Barbasca Thank you for the information. I appreciate the correction. Progoees (talk) 06:35, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
