Controversies section edit

I've removed the Controversies section because it was full of unsourced and extremely negative claims about the school and its teachers, in violation of policy. Thanks to Mbweston for flagging it (although the PROD template is for proposing the deletion of whole articles - for a single section you can suggest the change on the talk page, or just do it yourself). The material was added here. Olaf Davis (talk) 11:35, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have again removed this section due to inclusion of unsourced and incorrect information. If the contributor would like to show evidence of the comments they make about the school or would like to make direct contact - rather than anonymous incorrect contributions then they are welcome to contact the school. All contact information is available on the official website of the school. www.isgroningen.nl

I'm replying to your decision to remove the controversies section of this article - never did I accuse you, Mr. Weston of poorly running your school. In fact, if you read the section carefully, you would have seen that I complimented you on improving the school's quality drastically during your tenure. However, all of the information I posted is anecdotal information that can be verified by MYP students that matriculated before you became Headmaster. I ask you to be honest in your evaluations:
- Ask Mrs. Eschweiler if a class was organized to go to see a movie, and what happened to the student who didn't want to go.
- Ask former students how often teachers missed class.
- Ask teachers if they talked about their smoking habits in class.
- Ask former students if the crossbar and/or goalposts on the football field in front of the MYP 4 and 5/IB building was damaged.
- Ask former students if there were fights between students of each stream.
- Ask former students if there were any cases of drugs being found at the school.
- Ask former students if they were allowed to leave campus to go to the Shell gas station nearby during breaks.
In each case, sir, you will find that the anecdotes will be verified if the parties in question are honest. I have not commented on the school under you negatively, however, I have commented on the school before you became headmaster honestly. I politely beseech you to honor my honesty with your own. Students and - most importantly - parents, deserve to know the truth about the school's history, and if you see it fit, then you should comment yourself on the improvements you may have made in the last few years. But to claim that the information I gave is incorrect is dishonest, even if the evidence supporting it is anecdotal and not written. No one keeps written records about things like that.
Also, just a tip, "unsourced" isn't a real word.
Another tip - you have an inconsistency in your article - in one place the school's population is listed at 1500, in another it is 1400.

"However, all of the information I posted is anecdotal information that can be verified by MYP students..." This is the crux of the problem. Wikipedia does not deal in anecdotal information, and it requires a more reliable source of verification than simply taking students' word for things - seeWikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Whether the information is true is not relevant as far as Wikipedia is concerned if we have no proof that it is true.
Whether 'unsourced' is a word in everyday English or not, it is a term used by Wikipedia editors.
Thanks for pointing out the inconsistency. I'll check the school's website to see which is the correct figure. Olaf Davis (talk) 01:18, 1 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've taken the liberty of concatenating three sections of this talk page to make the discussion clearer. Olaf Davis (talk) 01:22, 1 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Copyvio edit

In the course of checking the school's website for the number of pupils, I relaised that the 'History' section of the article was a direct copy of this page. Since the latter is copyrighted Wikipedia cannot use the material, so I have removed it. The section could be reinstated if the school donated the copyright of the text (see here) or it was rewritten sufficiently using the original text as a source. Student Roll edit

The official student roll of the Maartenscollege is 1550 students. Of that 110 are also members of of the International School Groningen (the International section of the Maartenscollege). I hope that clarifies the precise amount of students. Mbweston (talk) 14:14, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
