Talk:International Conference on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Lwtwhu

I'm wondering why it's removed again and again. PRIB is a conference started from 2004, it has published more than 300 high-standard papers, and it's TC20 of IAPR. I don't think it couldn't be listed in computational biology conference. Some words such as "pattern recognition" and "bioinformatics" are unvoidable in the introduction part. I think I have explained that the 'prib2011' are also our conference page, and it's listed in the reference. Then, I really don't know why it couldn't be listed in computational biology conference. Could you please check the page again? if there's no copyright problem, could you please reserve the page in computational biology conference list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lwtwhu (talkcontribs)

How many times do I have to tell you: you need Reliable sources. Things that have been written about the conference by people who are not its organizers and sponsors and that have been published by a publisher independent of the conference and its organizers. The lack of reliable sources is the primary reason that it has been repeatedly removed from the list of conference pages, and it is also the biggest flaw (and the most likely reason for potential deletion) with this article as well. I've written this in the edit comments when I've removed this conference from the list, and I've written it in your user talk page, so I don't know why you seem to be hoping for a different answer by asking again here. —David Eppstein (talk) 15:16, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dear Prof. Eppstein,

We have checked the ranking of our PRIB conference, it shows that PRIB ranked 34 with a citation 54 over 177 publications from Microsoft Academic Search of Bioinformatics. Thus, is it reliable that we can add PRIB in List of computer science conferences? Thanks so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lwtwhu (talkcontribs) 04:58, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that counts as a reliable source. See WP:ELNO #9. —David Eppstein (talk) 05:10, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

We use Publish or Perish software, which uses Google Scholar to obtain the raw citations to analyze academic citations, to see some statistics about PRIB conference as follows:

  • From Publish or Perish 3
  • Year Period Papers Citations Impact factor
  • 2006-2007 55 80 1.45
  • 2007-2008 75 113 1.51
  • 2008-2009 94 111 1.18
  • 2006-2009 149 191 1.28
  • 2009-2010 88 53 0.6
  • 2006-2010 187 208 1.11

Is this reliable enough? If it still couldn't be counted as a reliable source, could you please kindly give me some suggestions/examples to find some reliable sources for the PRIB conference? Thanks so much.

You aren't even reading or thinking about my responses, are you, just trying to get anything that sticks. If one search engine is a no because it's a search engine, why should a different search engine be any different? And why is it so important to you to get an article here anyway? See WP:COI and WP:SOAPBOX. —David Eppstein (talk) 14:49, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Then, does that mean I shouldn't add the conference here? Based on your reply previously, I just thought because I haven't provide enough resources or materials. If it's not appropriate to add PRIB in Computational Biology conferences list in wiki, I'm sorry for disturbing you. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lwtwhu (talkcontribs) 09:39, 30 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
