- Question: Does internal friction due to planetary rotation (on its own axis) e.g. Plate_tectonics#Friction contribute to internal heat? For example, the Earth's outer core is considered to be a liquid, while the inner core and mantle are (relatively) solid. Would there not be some slippage, which would generate some friction and therefore heat? I'm not a geologist or physicist, just inquiring. Facts707 (talk) 10:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
