Talk:Infinity (wargame)

Latest comment: 2 years ago by Slimy asparagus in topic Problems with references

I am working on a Wikipedia page for Infinity the game, much of the content is taken from their own site which is listed in the External References

You should try to use independent sources. Also, please leave out the excessive detail. It does not belong in an encyclopedia article, especially without any context. - MrX 14:20, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry, I am new to this, I thought that the references were where the independant surces need to be but that the links could be from the manufacturer themselves?

The Factions section that you have removed was going to have text under each one, this will detail more information on the Universe in which the game is set, if I add them back at a later date with the descriptions; will you remove them again?Kiblams (talk) 15:14, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

In the future, would you please sign your talk page posts by typing four tildes at the end like this ~~~~, which will automagically insert your signature and time stamp? This way, I will know who I'm talking with.
Ideally, the references should be footnote citations from reliable, third party sources. You can learn how to do this by reading WP:CITE and WP:RS.
Since we are an encyclopedia, articles should be a concise summary of the most important aspects of the subject. It is recommended not to include detailed in-universe material or detailed plots, which seems to be what you wish to add. See WP:GAMEGUIDE for the relevant guideline. Since it is up to editorial discretion and since edit warring is not cool, I will not remove it again, but someone else might. - MrX 15:01, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help and guidance on this, the descriptions would have been concise, and would not have been a world apart from what you see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warmachine Kiblams (talk) 15:16, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. Unfortunately, there is OTHERSTUFF like Warmachine that need to be trimmed as well. - MrX 15:51, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Permission received from Corvus Belli to use their Logo on the Wikipdia Page, I will be uploading this in the next few days for the Page. not sure if I need to send this e-mail to a mailbox, but willd o this if it is required. Kiblams (talk) 16:41, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

You don't actually need permission to use a logo because it's considered fair use (and Fair use (U.S. trademark law)). There are options in file upload wizard that will further guide you through the process. - MrX 17:20, 3 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Problems with references edit

Most of the references on this page are not really references in the sense required by Wikipedia. They're mostly either primary sources or Boardgamegeek links. All of these are probably okay in the External links section.

What Wikipedia is more expecting is sources like this: https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/46306/corvus-belli-announces-new-infinity-n4-edition . Sources like ICv2, polygon, Ars Technica are considered thoroughly reliable. Slimy asparagus (talk) 23:53, 21 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
