There is no such thing as either 'Mangalyaan programme' or 'Indian Mars Exploration Programme' edit

The result of this discussion was: page moved to Indian Mars exploration missions.

The article could have simply been a list of exploration missions to Mars that India has conducted or is proposing. Instead article appears to be pushing an imagined program that simply does not exist. The roadmap cited explicitly mentions that it is merely a loose plausible approach by presenter. The article is treating a non-reliable reference to stretch it into a whole programme. I recommend that author uses references that are official documents and cite something as project only if it has drawn funds post-feasibility study and use their official names. Such misleading Wikipedia articles get picked by Indian Media and come back as references (see Circular reporting)  Ohsin  09:04, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Chandrayaan Programme can be called as 'imagined programme' as well because no such intended programme exists and it is simply a series of ISRO missions to the moon. The reasons behind naming the article were unintentional and the entire article, including the heading followed a convention that India's moon exploration article followed. ISRO sometimes uses the term 'Indian Lunar Exploration Programme' and at least the name Chandrayaan is official term unlike Mangalyaan. But still where are actual official references for that as well. Unless there is such planetary exploration project it is not appropriate to make such large assumptions and it is better to stick with official sources and terms, especially budget and project proposal related documents (Announcement of Opportunity etc.). Article can be termed as 'List of Indian exploration missions to Mars' or something, it can be discussed.  Ohsin  13:19, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
How a series of missions by the same organisation, towards the same destination and being developed on the basis and experience of initial missions, cannot qualify to be called as a programme? This was the reason behind naming 'Mangalyaan Programme' as 'Mars orbiter programme' wouldn't make sense for future missions. Regardless, I understand the reasons for not naming it as Mangalyaan programme. Changing it to 'Indian Mars exploration missions' for now. Footy2000 (talk) 13:39, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is very straight forward, there is little evidence of overarching planetary exploration framework which the article tried to convey. These are as you put it separate missions, one obviously building up on another. To call something as a project or programme it needs to have very clear, well funded roadmap and a formal structure like say NASA's Decadal Survey. ISRO's planetary exploration is a fledgling field and science missions are constantly on tenterhooks due to lack of resources, they can not define a roadmap even if they want to. Recently ISRO chairman said about MOM-2 that there is not enough interest in it which is interesting given that AO for it was announced back in Aug, 2016. Thanks for new title, it is apt.  Ohsin  14:22, 24 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Mr Unknown233 Not enough data to support the programmatic approach towards Mars exploration. Please discuss or visit talk pages before making big moves. It is misleading and original research. Thanks  Ohsin  11:55, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK but the article clearly shows that it is towards a programme like the section name programme structure which should changed to structure of missions or other appropriate name for section as it shows article as about programme not some missions. Words have meaning. 'Programme' term should be used if there is an actual programme or project. Correct the article where it appears to present a programmatic approach, previous title was more to the point.  Ohsin  14:41, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Done I have restored previous title along with corrections Mr Unknown233 (talk) 15:22, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I tried to fix talk page but I dont know how it gone wrong so to keep both article and talk page same this title should adopt for now Indian Mars Exploration Programme Mr Unknown233 (talk) 07:39, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please stop tinkering with the title. Even the details about Mars Orbiter MIssion is not fully known. So this is purely speculative as per WP:CRYSTAL Theknowhowman (talk) 12:36, 15 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I too know but suggest a way to keep both talk page and article on same namespace Mr Unknown233 (talk) 15:17, 17 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
