Macedonia

Erm, on the 1992 section of the article it has referenced Macedonia as "Republic of Macedonia". Isn't that going against WP:NCMAC? I was always lead to believe that FYR, FYROM, Republic of... wasn't suppose to be used unless the article also mentioned other Macedonia's, or if it was the main article for the Republic of Macedonia itself. Shouldn't the name be changed in accordance to the naming convention rule? Wesley Mouse 17:45, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm no expert on NCMAC, and just pulled the naming from the 1992 IOP article. I see there that someone went through for NCMAC and left the lead as Republic of Macedonia ([1]). I'd say that because it deals with the period right around the breakup of Yugoslavia, it may be useful to identify it disambiguating from, e.g., Socialist Republic of Macedonia. That being said, I don't particularly care either way, if folks have a different interpretation of the naming convention. -- Jonel (Speak to me) 12:03, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Thankfully I do have some experiences with NCMAC through working with WikiProject Eurovision. And I can say that several editors on Wikipedia have received 1RR restrictions impeded on them for violating NCMAC for using the terms FYR Macedonia, FYROM, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, or Republic of Macedonia. As far as I understand it, on article for competition events such as Eurovision Song Contest, FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Championships, the nation is suppose to be referred to as Macedonia. So on that basis one would assume the same NCMAC guideline would apply for article of the Olympic Games. Wesley Mouse 08:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Team Refugee Olympic Athletes

For now, I've included this team under this page and have redirected article titles here. I think it's likely that they will compete under the IOC code 'ROA', as a separate entity from previous Independent athletes - at this point, it will probably be appropriate to split the material out, but let's hold it here for now. Hi @Super Nintendo Chalmers: where you the one that deleted the Independent 2016 article and brought the content here? If so I think it totally makes sense. But I did put allot of recent work into the Independent 2016 so it would have been great if you notified me about what you where planning to do. And also posted something here about the big change. Difference between IOP and IOA

Infobox medal totals

Is there any way to hide the medal totals? If not, we could use a different template to show the same info, minus the medal totals.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 19:29, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

IOP, IOA, OAR

Sorces don't group IOP, IOA and OAR as a single entity. On the contrary, the Olympedia considers OAR and ROC as a single entity (See: Olimpedia, ROC) and the Olympanalyt considers them in the same way (See: Olympanalyt, OAR/ROC). As for IOP and IOA, Olympedia group them as a single entity (See: Olimpedia, IOA), while Olympanalyt considers IOP and IOA as a different entities (See: Olympanalyt, IOP and Olympanalyt, IOA). Anyway, no source mixes OAR together with IOA and IOP. So we shouldn't mix them in this article either. Based on this, I made the following edits to the article:

• I have removed the table detailing medals for the OAR. This table already exists in the article Olympic Athletes from Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics, and can be added to the summary article Russian Olympic Committee at the Olympics if desired.
• I have removed the single infobox that included OAR medals, replacing it with infoboxes that did not include OAR medals.
• I have added a paragraph to the preview section, explaining the grouping of IOP and IOA by different sources.
