Talk:In Nomine (role-playing game)

There were a great many errors in the last version. As the GM for a very long-running In Nomine web campaign, I have attempted to expound on where precisely the previous author made mistakes. For example, Lucifer is a bad example of an angelic Word twisting after a Fall into a demonic Word, because canonically in In Nomine, Lucifer's word is not known. I deleted that part, leaving the reader with the clear example of Andreaphlus, whose word of Love turns into Lust.

The previous author did a good job of noting the moral ambiguity of the stock literature, but appears to lack experience in actually playing the game. I corrected the oversight by explaining that most games are played as either "bright" or "dark," and the game literature is designed to be workable with either take.

Many other details were not well-explained. For example, it was explained that the d666 rolls of 1, 1, 1, and 6, 6, 6, are indeed critical successes or failures, with the added quirk of them always corresponding to a side. However, a reminder that whether a given Intervention roll is good or bad depends on the nature of the player was in order - many new players are confused by this, or forget it their first few times in actual play.

The Word-binding system was also not adequately explained. A reading of the previous version left the impression that all Word-bound celestials are Superiors (that is, Archangels or Demon Princes), when in fact this is far from the case. There are hundreds or thousands of celestials bound to more minor themes in the Symphony, and only the most important Words, signifying the grandest of themes - War, Dreams, Destiny, Judgment, and the like - are actual Superior material. I added the example of Doxas, Michael's lieutenant, to illustrate this difference.

Future revisions of this document should include the names of the Archangels and Demon Princes, their Words, their personalities, historical backgrounds, political affiliations, and rivalries.

I'm unable to recall whether or not their chains have to be silver canonically. As such, I left the 20 July 05 edit up.

I suggested on the GURPS In Nomine page that the info on that stub be moved over here. There's not enough differences between the two to warrent an entire page, I think. --Deafgeek 10:06, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
