For the song "Illimani" that is referred to in the article - does anyone know whom it is from? That would be useful to know... Fangchen 06:43, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Volcano? edit

I really don't believe the claim that Illimani is an extinct volcano. That's contradicted by the Yossi Brain reference I just added, for one thing. The article includes Simkin and Siebert, which is pretty authoritative, as a source, but I have a hunch that the source has been misinterpreted. So I'll try to get my hands on a copy of S&S myself and see what it really says. -- Spireguy 20:45, 14 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Surprisingly enough, my local public library had S&S, and guess what, there is no mention whatsoever of Illimani, or any peak in the Cordillera Real---because they are not volcanic! Since that "source" was bogus I also deleted the other one. I think they were copied from somewhere without the original author of the article knowing that they had no relevance. I wonder how many other non-volcanic peaks are misidentified on Wikipedia as volcanoes, just because they are big mountains---Huascarán used to be another example. -- Spireguy 22:02, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Eponym edit

The meaning of Illimani is given as "Golden Eagle," but this conflicts with the story given in Cantua buxifolia (the national flower of Bolivia). While Bolivia certainly has gold and probably has eagles, it doesn't have Golden Eagles, the range of which doesn't reach South America. Does anyone have a reference? —MiguelMunoz (talk) 08:49, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't see the conflict. "Golden eagle" is just the current name given to Aquila chrysaetos in english, and that fact has nothing to do with this story. The king in the Aymara legend is named "Eagle Made of Gold", thus "Golden Eagle" is a proper translation. That is without reference to an actual kind of eagles, just as Crazy Horse was named without reference to an actual kind of horses.Comu_nacho (spanish speaker) (talk) 01:38, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
