Please give citations for the article statement about a Roman statue (female, with inscription "Olicana") found in the River Wharfe, as unable to find any information. There is a facsimile of an altar stone dedication to "Verbeia" in Ilkley Manor House Museum.

Ilkley vs. Elslack

edit

Most in depth sources state that this place was in Elslack not Ilkley.[1] This articles gives a completely different story. - Yorkshirian 00:16, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've expanded this article a bit, and I have to agree. I've emphasized the uncertainty a bit more in the article, without being too dogmatic about it. I would suggest that this page might be better off being moved to Ilkley Roman Fort. 94.197.205.13 (talk) 00:56, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
It seems pretty clear that the station at Ilkley was not Olicana, every source I've found (http://keithbriggs.info/images/Roman_roads_NG_Margary_Latin.pdf, http://www.roman-sites.com/england/ilkley/ilkley.htm, http://www.archaeology.wyjs.org.uk/RomanWeb/Ilkley.htm) all point to Verbeia. I really don't think that the article can be left as it is. --Trappedinburnley (talk) 20:56, 19 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think 20 months is long enough to wait for a response so I have renamed this article as suggested. --Trappedinburnley (talk) 17:55, 27 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
