Some references don't support text

The text that says the student campaigns are seen as threatening to organized crime is references to a Washington Port article which does not support the text. Has anyone bothered to check all of the references to see if they are legitimate? Damotclese (talk) 22:19, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

The source says "Now, in places where bus companies and other businesses pay protection money to gangsters, the rules have changed." And then goes on to describe organized crimes reaction to the commandeering of buses. I think the phrase int he article is a reasonable interpretive paraphrase of the meaning of this sentence in the source. It is certainly not a misuse of the reference even if the wording can be changed to better reflect the exact meaning of the source with less interpretation.User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 22:34, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Title needs changing to "2014 Ayotzinapa mass disappearance"

This mass disappearance/mass murder is refered to as Ayotzinapa, and those disappeared as the Ayotzinapa 43, by those in Chiapas, in Mexico and throughout Latin America, in the US, as well as by those pursuing the end of human rights violations around the world. Therefore, more users would be able to find the correct article in a search.

Additionally, the word 'kidnapping' suggests a different set of circumstances, where a ransom is demanded. This is not the case for the Ayotzinapa 43, nor have the parents of the students been contacted by those demanding ransoms.

• @Instone2018: I'm reaching out to you regarding the claim whether the students "stole" or "borrowed" the buses. According to this reliable source, the students "commandeered" (i.e. take possession of something without authority) the buses. The students claim they "borrowed" the buses because they would sometimes bring them back (in Spanish, the students called it "retener autobuses"). Let's stick to "commandeered" instead of "stolen". First sentence

In the first sentence, what does "disappeared" mean? Does it mean that they disappeared, or that they "were disappeared", i.e. a forced disappearance? The sentence structure admits both possibilities. Forced disappearance gets several mentions in the rest of the article, but almost always in criminal charges (and unless I missed something, conviction/acquittal isn't mentioned), so I'm not sure what's meant. Title - WP:COMMONNAME - "Massacre"?

I've read a number of news stories that seem to primarily refer to this event as a massacre. Has anyone done a survey of the sources to see if "Mass Kidnapping" is still the most WP:COMMONNAME? NickCT (talk) 14:18, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

I think the big issue is finding remains of the students. If there is not certainty they are dead, that they were killed, even if there is only the remotest chance they were not, you can't call it a massacre. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 21:23, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Have attempted to update the article. I suspect it is longer than the recommended wikipedia length. For anyone looking to trim it they might want to start with the Protests over education reform proposals section.
