Gay reputation?!

What? No it isn't famous for being pedophile. My parents are from Idlib and I visit it every year. The "gay repution" it is just a way of making fun of idlib. and yes, in many syrian cities (like aleppo) the word "idilbi" is a synonym for "gay". but it isn't true, it is just a rumor and has nothing to do with pedophiles! --Nucleotid (talk) 13:45, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

I've reviewed all edits to the article since it was first created, and this section has been the subject of a protracted edit war of removals and reinsertions. We now have two sources to reference this reputation for having some sort of homosexual culture, so I've reinstated the section including both references. __meco (talk) 18:13, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

I've removed the section. It's backed by an unreliable source "GayMiddleEast.com" which doesn't even state there's a "high number of homosexuals" in Idlib. The Guardian just mentions that Idlib is the butt of gay jokes in Syria the way Qazvin is in Iran. Kind of the way Homs is the butt of "dummy" jokes in the country. I hope editors could understand this and not reinsert the section. Try to focus on expanding the city's history (a section which is yet to exist.) --Al Ameer son (talk) 22:30, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Although I'm all for removing information that's not supported by sources, and also I'm in full agreement that we should not use sources that aren't reliable, I believe your edit completely removing this information is unwarranted. I don't know too much about GayMiddleEast.com, but it strikes me odd that you would claim that a gay-culture regional website is unreliable on the discussion of the gay epithet this city has earned itself, especially as the essence of this information is corroborated by The Guardian. I also read your statement above to contend that we shouldn't allow for anything other than core information about a subject, at least before the article is more or less expanded to discuss these core themes. If you object to having this information in a separate section I suggest it be simply appended to the introduction pending a more appropriate section to put it. I wrote off "GayMiddleEast.com" as unreliable not because it's a "gay-culture website," but because I consider all (or the lion's share of) blogs as unreliable for an encyclopedic entry. The Guardian just mentions that Idlib is the butt of gay jokes and doesn't say there's a high number of homosexuals in the city or really much at all except comparing it to Qazvin. I faced a similar problem at Homs which is the butt of "dumb" jokes in Syria even though this is obviously false. I considered adding the latter to the Homs article but thought against it since I don't find it to be particularly useful or relevant to the article. In my parents' Galilee hometown people make fun of Nahf's residents for the same reason even though that town is full of successful professionals. It's a funny thing Middle Easterners have going on in their local communities but something unworthy of mention in an encyclopedic article. --Al Ameer son (talk) 15:53, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Instead of ranting like someone who hasn't got a clue about what Wikipedia is and how the edit process functions, why don't you specify which edits and which editors you believe are not contributing constructively to this article? What is it that you find to be "nonsense"? Be specific! Also, why are you saying that the "Syrian opposition took the control of Idlib"? Why is this relevant? Aren't their political institutions, parties, etc. in Idlib just like everywhere else? Why is it relevant whether the incumbent party or the opposition holds the leadership of this city? The 2004 census documented 98 thousand people. No way that number increased to 165 thousand by 2010, nearly doubling in 6 years. And, there was no census in 2010.
