My first review of a Eurovision Song Contest article for a while! --K. Peake 09:45, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Infobox and lead edit

  • WP:OVERLINK of Daði Freyr under songwriter(s)
  • Similarly to above, you needn't link to Daði Freyr twice in prose
  • "of the event." → "of the event in February 2020."
  • The spread of COVID-19 across Europe is sourced in the body, but it is not as being to the rapid level
  • "with RÚV subsequently announcing that Daði og Gagnamagnið would" → "with Daði og Gagnamagnið subsequently announcing that he would" per the body
  • Maybe you should mention any of the notable alternate contests here?

Background edit

  • "thirty-six times since its" → "32 times following its" per the source and MOS:NUM
  • "to enable live transmission of the contest." → "to enable live transmission of it."
  • "In 2018 Iceland marked" → "In 2018, Iceland marked"
  • "marking Iceland's worst result" → "marking the region's worst result"
  • "Iceland made its returned to" → "Iceland made its return to"
  • The various methods and since 2006 parts are unsourced
  • "confirmed details for the production of Söngvakeppnin 2020 to select its entry" → "affirmed details for the production of Söngvakeppnin 2020 to select the entry"

Before Eurovision edit

Söngvakeppnin 2020 edit

  • "Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) once again organised Söngvakeppnin ("The Singing Competition")" → "RÚV once again organised Söngvakeppnin ("The Singing Competition")"
  • "on 29 February 2020." → "on 29 February."
  • "on 13 September 2019, and until 18 October 2019 interested" → "on 13 September 2019 and until 17 October, interested" per the source
  • "experienced Icelandic songwriters inviting them" → "experienced Icelandic songwriters, inviting them"
  • "which lyricists were able to be credited to an unlimited number..." are you sure this isn't too wordy; it reads confusingly?
  • "the author(s) of the winning song" → "any authors of the winning song"
  • "as part of Netflix's ambitions" → "This was part of Netflix's ambitions" since the current sentence feels like a run-on
  • "its media operations and to" → "its media operations, as well as to"
  • Add the release year of the film in brackets

Competing entries edit

  • "The ten competing artists and" → "The 10 competing artists and" per MOS:NUM
  • "through a special programme" → "through the special programme"
  • Only the 2011 participation appears to be sourced for Matti Matt, also why is Sjonni's Friends listed as additional after his 2011 participation has already been mentioned when that is basically what it was?
  • "and Elísabet has participated in" → "and Elísabet had participated in"
  • Shouldn't Daði Freyr only be wikilinked to once in the table?
  • Same query as above for Dimma (band)
  • Pipe Stefán Hilmarsson to Sálin hans Jóns míns (band)

Shows edit

Semi-finals edit
  • "acts performed, and two entries" → "acts performed and two entries"
Final edit
  • Alexandra Rotan's representation of Norway in a previous contest is not sourced anywhere in prose
  • "they could perform, and three of" → "they could perform; three of"
  • "being converted to match the total number of" → "being added to the number of" per the source, unless something else specifies elsewise
  • Remove pipe on Daði og Gagnamagnið
  • Remove wikilink on "Eitt lag enn"

Promotion edit

  • Img looks good!
  • The viral phenomenon sentence is not sourced at all
  • "semi-final the track and performance gained traction online," → "semi-final, the track and performance gained traction online"
  • "in Madrid, and the" → "in Madrid and the"

At Eurovision edit

  • The semi-final dates are not mentioned by the source
  • "the top ten countries from" → "the top 10 countries from" per MOS:NUM
  • Pipe Eurovision rules to Rules of the Eurovision Song Contest
  • Remove wikilink on COVID-19 pandemic in Europe
  • "was cancelled the producers of the contest revealed" → "was cancelled, its producers revealed"
  • Change to img text to merely hosted by Eurobandið since those two are the only members

Alternative contests edit

  • "consisting of ten singers" → "consisting of 10 singers" per MOS:NUM
  • "on 14 April and emerged" → "on 14 April 2020, emerging" but this date is not sourced
  • "the three qualified entries, and Iceland was" → "the three qualified entries; Iceland was"
  • "in on 14 May;" → "on 14 May."
  • The edition is the 2021 one, not 2011, so alter appropriately
  • "Sweden's national selection," → "Sweden's national selection"
  • "on 16 May, respectively." → "on 16 May 2020, respectively."
  • "ten songs competing to be voted Germany's favourite song on" → "10 songs competing to be voted Germany's favourite song of"
  • "and subsequently finished in" → "subsequently finishing in"
  • The Roop → the Roop per MOS:THEMUSIC

After Eurovision edit

  • "Following the contest's cancellation" → "Following the contest's cancellation,"
  • "stating that he would not" → "stating he would not"
  • "Iceland again or whether" → "Iceland again or"
  • "Daði subsequently announced on" → "Daði Freyr subsequently announced on"
  • "contest, and would again be joined by" → "contest, slated to again be joined by"
  • "reaching #2 in the Netherlands, #3 in Belgium, the top 5 in" → "reaching number two in the Netherlands, number three in Belgium, the top five in" per MOS:NUM
  • "the top 40 in" → "the top 40 in both"
  • Remove wikilink on YouTube
  • Remove wikilink on Spotify
  • Pipe to Time (magazine) should only be on Time

Final comments and verdict edit

  •   On hold until all of the issues are fixed; one thing I didn't mention above because it is consistent is why do you variate between Daði Freyr and Daði og Gagnamagnið, also shouldn't his surname be used after the first mention?
    • Thanks for picking this one up! I believe I've now fixed all the prose aspects of the article, and have swapped out and added new refs where appropriate. Please do take a look at these to make sure they pass your criteria for inclusion. I've left one or two things for now just to explain my thinking, typically where you consider these WP:OVERLINK.
    • For the Stefán Hilmarsson link, I've left this one per WP:NOTBROKEN, as he is known in Iceland and has performed outside of the band Sálin hans Jóns míns, so there is potential for a new article just on the individual to be created in the future (e.g. see his page on the Icelandic Wikipedia).
    • On the difference between Daði Freyr and Daði og Gagnamagnið, as these are two different concepts (Daði being the frontman of the band Gagnamagnið essentially) I have left both links for now in the lead and further down the article as I think it's important to differentiate between the individual Daði Freyr and the band of six people he performs in. Potentially a solution to this could be, as with Stefán Hilmarsson above, to add the link directly to Daði og Gagnamagnið (which redirects to a section on the Daði Freyr article).
    • For the overlinking in the competing entries table, my thinking was to have the first instance of each article in each column linked. That would cover Daði Freyr, Dimma (band), as well as a few other instances in the table would be linked on the first instance in the artist column and then again in the songwriter(s) column. So you can see that Daði Freyr Pétursson in the songwriter(s) column has been linked for Daði og Gagnamagnið's entry but not for Elísabet's.
    • Finally, on your point around variating between Daði Freyr and Daði og Gagnamagnið, as I said the man is different from the group, but also Pétursson is not Daði Freyr's surname, but rather his patronymic as part of the Icelandic naming system, so I've aimed to be consistent in using his first name Daði where it makes sense, and then first name and surname Daði Freyr in other instances.
      • I would say that you don't need to use his full name in the after Eurovision section, as he is both the only and previosu Daði to be mentioned by this point. --K. Peake 07:01, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
    • Happy to continue to make changes as a result of any of the points above, or if you notice anything in my other changes as part of the review. Let me know what I can do to push this over the line. Sims2aholic8 (talk) 11:07, 4 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
      • I've now also added, as suggested, some additional information to the lead, including some of the alternative contests. Please do review and suggest any changes as required.
        • These are spot on, nice job! --K. Peake 07:01, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
      • Additional points I forgot to mention above as well: Matti Matt's participation in 2011 was twofold, as he participated as a solo artist and also as part of Sjonni's Friends, hence the double mention for 2011; and the Austrian contest date of 14 May is included in the Wiwibloggs article, but I can source additional sites if needed. •  Pass now, happy to have my first GA from a review for this backlog and I am happy with you for being constructive! --K. Peake 20:43, 5 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
