oxygene Part-5

It must be said that this track, sometimes recognised as on of the first "electro" song of disco/dance music is largely inspired (if not copy-pasted) by oxygene part-5 (second part of it) by Jean Michel Jarre. Moroder himself recognise that he was fascinated hearing this piece (oxygene5) when Jarre was recording it in the same studio where they both worked; he asked Jarre to go back with a copy of the recording, and a few weeks after the song "I feel love" get out. Not completely. In this interview, Jean-Michel Jarre says that Moroder heard Oxygene while it was being recorded in Paris, and that I Feel Love was "un des premiers samples piraté" (one of the first pirate samples). This is not strictly true, as there is no note for note similarity in the synth bass lines of Oxygene 5/2 and I Feel Love. Nevertheless, it is possible that I Feel Love was influenced by Oxygene 5/2, and Jarre clearly believes this.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 21:02, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Jarre believes a lot of things. And I say that liking the man a great deal. Jarre would have had a poor case in a court of law, as the two bass lines are nowhere near identical, only vaguely similar. However, the anecdote that Moroder heard Oxygene being recorded in the studio in 1976 does not seem to be denied by either of them.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 21:29, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Fine. The point is, as I was attempting to illustrate above - so what? Popular music is littered with thousands of such instances. Agreed, it would be notable for the article if the incident had set off a plagiarism lawsuit, as happened with Telstar (song). You could fill an entire book with similar tunes in pop songs. It is often pointed out that Jarre's Oxygene Part 4 is similar to Popcorn (instrumental), but whether this is an intentional quote is unclear.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 06:55, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

One real instrument

Moroder and Bellotte did use one real instrument, a bass drum for the beat. They could not get a precise punchy sound with snap attack and end out of synth.
