Requested move edit

ISSISS (disambiguation) – The International Space Station is by far the most common usage of the term ISS, so ISS should redirect to it, and this page should be a disambiguation linked to from the International Space Station article using {{redirect}}. • Oppose alot of people call the ISS, space station Alpha, or Space Station Freedom. 132.205.44.134 04:28, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Just a comment, since I really don't care one way or the other! Anyway you've got things round the wrong way - it's neither here nor there what other names people use for the space station... GW' is saying the main meaning of "ISS" is International Space Station (which I probably agree with, so I guess this is Support after all). Thanks/wangi 04:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per GW. The space station is the most common use of ISS(and what it's usually referred as). TJ Spyke 06:36, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. I'm not convinced that the most common usage is for the International Space Station. Given that that 'space station' is likely the most common name for the object only severs to muddy the waters. I guess the question is what harm is done by not changing? I see no harm in leaving things as they are. By doing the change, several existing links would be redirected to the wrong article. Vegaswikian 19:30, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Support First page of Google results for ISS is 50% International Space Station; I haven't heard of any other meaning on ISS disambig page (yes, I'm aware that both my reasons for voting are not quite the most objective, but they convince me ;-) ) --Dijxtra 10:17, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Question — are we placing a "ISS redirects here, for other uses..." on top of the International Space Station article? I quite dislike them... // Duccio 15:42, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. This is what disambig (and tla-disambig) pages are for. Bolivian Unicyclist 13:58, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. This is what x(disambiguation) is for. One use is by far the most common use and so should be a redirect. Rmhermen 20:48, 25 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - This situation is what WP:DAB#Primary_topic describes. --3Idiot 15:08, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - there aren't many pages to that link to ISS right now (< 25 pages), so it wouldn't be hard to change back - but i don't think we'll want to anyway. Mlm42 15:56, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have had a look at "what links here" on each of the pages listed, and I have found:
Page Number of links
(excluding this one)
International Space Station 938
ISS A/S 7
Institute of Social Studies 7
Industrial Sounding System 3 (2 AFD nominations and a vandalism warning, so it is technically an orphan)
International Superstar Soccer 48 (A large number are duplicate entries thanks to 16 redirects)
Internet Security Systems 22
Imperial Star Ship
(Which is a redirect to Imperial Starship)
3 (A further 6 link directly to Imperial Starship)
International Social Services 0 (Orphan)
Instruction Set Simulator 8
Indian Springs School 7
All other items are redlinks

Therefore, I would say that the ISS Space Station is indisputably the most notable of these, on the grounds that it has all but 9 times as many links to it as the rest of the pages put together. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 12:11, 24 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree that the space station is the target most people are wanting when they aim at "ISS". However, I think we who edit space mission pages could be more careful about using the abbreviation properly per the Manual of Style suggestions and then not overlinking "ISS" every time it's used.

Acronyms that don't belong edit

Why is Internet Information Services listed? That's IIS, not ISS. --Bigpeteb (talk) 03:31, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
