IPad with Retina display,IPad (4th generation) – The article should not have been moved to a marketing term, with a stray comma in the name, no less. The original name "iPad (4th generation)" was perfectly fine and encyclopedic and follows the same naming standard as the other iPad articles. • Support - No one calls it that. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 14:18, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - Name wasn't discussed or agreed upon prior to move. 68DANNY2 (talk) 14:20, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - Moved without having a discussion and a consensus. Mover should have payed more attention and double checked instead of just pasting "iPad with Retina display," from the first sentence. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 14:35, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
  • Now that we're in the odd situation of the "current" title not existing and the article moved back, a procedural close is in order. --BDD (talk) 16:58, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have restored the page to the original title of iPad (4th generation) with a redirect from iPad with retina display (because it seems to be a plausible search term.) I did the restoration because the copying of the text and redirection of the article created a copyright violation -- i.e., the editing history had not been moved along with the text as is required by our terms of use. So the article is now restored to the first version prior to its being moved to the marketing term. CactusWriter (talk) 17:04, 30 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

The new iPad - problematic redirects edit

Hallo, I know precious little about iPads but have found a strange situation:

This can't be right. Either

  • Only one machine is known as "the new ipad" and all the redirects should go there, or
  • Both these, and perhaps earlier and future models too, are or have been known as "the new ipad":
  • If one machine is the primary usage but others are sometimes called this, then the redirects should go there and there should be a hatnote leading either to the other machines or to a dab page.
  • If there is no primary usage, we need a dab page, with all the redirects pointing to it.

I leave it to those who know about iPads to sort it out - please! PamD 11:40, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

All articles/redirects with the title "New iPad" should be directed to the 3rd generation iPad article as it was marketed with that name. Although some people may refer to the most recent generation iPad as the "New iPad", Apple official markets it as the "iPad with Retina display." Despite this, people may refer to the former from time to time, though it is not a common name for this generation from what I've seen so any articles with the aforementioned title really shouldn't be redirected this article.
