I would like to clirify one thing. The Cherenkov radiation is not emited by the relativistic particles. It is emited by the atmosphere molecules as they are asimetricaly polarized.
FACT edit
In the abstracts of the article, there can be read that there are currently three operating IACT systems. Actually, I think there is at least one more called FACT (http://arxiv.org/abs/1304.1710) which is kind of special since it uses Geiger mode Avalanche Photodiodes instead of Photomultipliers.
