New editor here! This article could use some work...
editPizzaHamburgerGuy here. So, preface: I am not a native speaker of Huichol. I only speak English, and put the ish in Spanish. This article could be expanded a lot! Ethnologue is already cited, so that's great. The thing is, Ethnologue has more resources, and SIL does too! I would do this too, however it's late, and I'm absolutely not an expert on this topic. It would be nice if an expert could edit this more. The Spanish article has helpful charts and things like that, but it has less sections than the English. Both articles could improve by working off each other, and just looking at more sources! Thanks, PizzaHamburgerGuy (talk) 04:51, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
Fact cleanup
editThe lead said that this language belongs to the Mesoamerican linguistic area, when the opposite is true. The citation I have given in fact also lists five criteria for that linguistic area.
Outdated spellings were used for what were supposed to be the native name: Huichol orthography doesn't use the letter v. Aside from spelling, two suggestions for a native name of the language were given, and the second word in each suggestion I did not find in my own research. I stumbled on the fact that the source of this pair of slightly wrong phrases is the Ethnologue entry for Huichol on the Mexico page. Of course, Ethnologue is not always wrong, but this mistake makes at least two examples of editors being lazy at their research. This seems to be a recurring fault in these Mexican indigenous languages articles. Dale Chock (talk) 20:42, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
