Extinct? Official information states this species is extinct, but the European Union supposedly supports a project for saving "Coregonus oxyrinchus" in Denmark:[1]

Mix up Maybe something (also at the EU?) is mixed up. This species can supposedly also being confused with "Coregonus maraena" as stated on the German page: [2] Correct English page for this non extinct species:[3]

Some expert needs to look into this page since clearly something is mixed up and not correct.

Should we correct this page now since houting is possibly verified to be the European whitefish, not a separate species?

edit

So, let me explain:

I recently found this link while scrolling in my page, and it says that houting, once thought to be well extinct, is presented with somewhat concrete evidence that houting is equal to the European whitefish, which is not yet extinct (vulnerable :( ) So, Wikipedians, what should we do or, well, what should we fix?

This is still pretty new, so for now, the relevant articles should mention it, but we should wait with a merge until its extinction status is officially changed. FunkMonk (talk) 19:18, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've now added info on this to the relevant articles. FunkMonk (talk) 20:17, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
