Old MGM opening date

Is it July 5 or December 23? Vegaswikian 22:43, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Ok... I concede, I don't know. I've seen July 2/3/4/5 and December 5/18/23/24 1973 (The year is about the only thing firmly known). I trust December 5 July 5. Although I can't explain why without expressing my own doubts.
The Review-Journals website (and here) says 1973. I frequently trust a respected news site, before any other sire looking for money from advertisements/advertising. Many sites designed to offer factual information list only the year also.
You'd think this wouldn't be so damn difficult to nail down. I've read a third person (University student) autobiography of Kerkorian, but due to a few factual errors within it, I chose not to trust their research either.

Let's try the UNLV library which says the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino was open from 1973-1993. It shows the current MGM opening in 1993 but does not list the MGM-Marina as a name that was used. It also shows the sale of the first one in 1986 and not 1985. So I think we can be sure of some of the years, 1973 and 1993. However that site does not list the Bonanza! Can I suggest that we pick what we think is right and drop the disputed tag since this is so fuzzy and the tag makes it look like there is a real dispute rather then a question about a few dates? When someone finds information that shows what we went with is wrong it can be changed, but it may very well be that my observation could be correct. We just don't know and I don't believe anyone will have better information any time soon. This is similar to the number of hotel rooms issue that we frequently run into. I have not read anything concerning the Bonanza Hotel, so I can't speak of it. As for the MGM (original), I do believe it didn't exist as another hotel (at least the current buildings). I am lead to believe that Kirkorian built the property/buildings. As for the dates, the years listed are not in confusion, just the month & day. And as for the disputed tag, I'll go ahead and remove it. I searched the available templates, but no other seems to offer a better statement that factual accuracy is questioned. I just didn't want to anyone to quote WP and pinpoint this article that is higher profile than a greater majority of articles and use its (possible) inaccuracy to debunk WP. Update: I decided to just change it to:
See the talk page regarding the following dates.
Is that better until resolved? Guy M (soapbox)
I think so. Clearly states that there are some specifics with dates that are not clear. But the other information is accurate. Vegaswikian 22:00, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
I disagree. We cannot reference talk pages from articles. If you have to be less specific or note than the date is disputed, that's fine. But talk pages are for discussing the content of articles, they are not footnotes. savidan(talk) (e@) 13:36, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

MGM Hotel and Casino

I think I'm going to create an article for the former name used for this hotel. All of the current links about the old hotel point to the new one which is not really correct. I'll probably use the name MGM Grand Hotel and Casino for the article since it needs to be different from the current one to help keep this straight. Vegaswikian 18:46, 27 July 2005 (UTC)

Acutually I was just back from Vietnam and my wife and I were driving from WV to WA. We stopped in Las Vegas for a few nights either 30 December 1970 or 31 December 1970. We couldn't find any rooms -- one place had a 3-night minimum and we were to share the room! We started driving back to the strip and saw the Bonanza with a vacancy sign on. We went in and to our surprise and luck, the hotel was not supposed to open until later, but due to the number of folks/tourists in town for New Years, they opened the hotel that day -- even though the casino was not going to open. So my wife and I were the first to actually stay in our room.

Conflicting...

the template and the article conflict in sizes. Guy M (soapbox) 09:03, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
