William Marshall built the lighthouse in 1245? edit

That's an impressive achievement for someone who was dead for 26 years. The info comes from: http://www.commissionersofirishlights.com/cil/aids-to-navigation/lighthouses/hook-head.aspx, however I'm fairly sure it's wrong, and whoever wrote the William Marshall article on wikipedia would appear to agree with me on that. I'm also extremely suspicious of that article's dating of Raymond le Gros' death. The Expugnatio Hibernica, in which he features prominently, was written several years after 1182 and his death isn't mentioned in it. They could mean Walter Marshal, 5th Earl of Pembroke or Anselm Marshal, 6th Earl of Pembroke who both died that year, or got the year wrong, but we can't really speculate on that in an encyclopaedia article.

I'm editing it to read "According to the Commissioners of Irish lights, however, more recent studies have attributed construction to William Marshal in 1245.[2] However, this is impossible since Marshall died in 1219, meaing that either he was not involved in the construction, or that the date of 1245 is incorrect.". If someone thinks it's a better idea to deem the Commissioner for Irish Lights an unreliable source in this instance (since in so far as I can see, it doesn't cite where its getting the William Marshall link) and straight out delete the reference to Marshall, then go ahead.

Oldest operating lighthouse edit

So, how can this be the oldest operating lighthouse in the world if the Tower of Hercules is at least 1000 years older? The most it could be argued to be is, perhaps, the oldest "uninterrumptedly operating" lighthouse (given the Tower of Hercules fell into disrepair during the seventeenth century), but it is definitely not the oldest one.

Citations needed for History section edit

Reading the article and also the website of the Irish Lighthouse Commissioners there seem to be discrepancies and doubt about the exact age of the lighthouse and the article lacks reliable citations 95.150.59.185 (talk) 15:25, 11 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
