Incorrect photo

I believe the photo of the NR500 race bike is actually the NS500 two-stroke used by Freddie Spencer in the 1983 season.Orsoni 10:25, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Development ended by rule change.

I recall reading some magazine article that said development of these oval piston engines was ended when the racing rules were changed to require only one connecting rod per piston. Bizzybody (talk) 01:20, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

Not according to Aaron Frank, in Honda Motorcycles, pp 102-121, and Ian Falloon in The Honda Story, pp 123-128. Both agree that while the technology and institutional know-how were invaluable for the next generation of Honda street bikes, the NR500 was just too unreliable and posted too few wins, too late, to be worth continuing, so they finally had to give up and switch to two-strokes because they wanted to win.
