Talk:Homophobia in the Black British community

Renaming of article

As suggested by Dwanyewest on the WikiProject LGBT studies talk page, I think that this page ought to be moved to Homophobia in the Black British and ethnic minority community (or similar name) in order to include minority ethnic groups in Britain. Are Black British and other ethnic folks a single community? This would seem to be linking disparate groups together for the taint of being non-white. Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:32, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Well, since "Black British" isn't technically a single community either (depending on one's definition), the same argument could be made for that.

Yes, but those sources aren't covering them as a single community. Do we have sources that treat this as a separate group for the discussion of homophobia? Are there strong attributes that link homophobia as expressed in these diverse communities that do not also apply to the white community? Or does this article just end up being a ghetto to separate out these folks from "normal" people and their homophobia? --Nat Gertler (talk) 17:45, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

There is plenty of info on Muslim and British asian homophobia so rather create another separate article I thought it would be better to cover these groups under BME [4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. Dwanyewest (talk) 18:05, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Coming from this discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies, I don't see why the article should be renamed. Right now, it is about black people in Britain. We should be going by what the WP:Reliable sources state. Furthermore, if the "and ethnic minority community" part is not meant to pertain to Britain, that is already covered by other articles about homophobia in their communities. If the "and ethnic minority community" part is meant to pertain to Britain, it can be interpreted broader than that, which is what I just did in this paragraph. And as for covering Muslim people, a black person being Muslim or adhering to some other religion does not mean that the article's title should reflect that. Also, per WP:Article title, the title should not have "ethnic" capitalized. Maybe "Black" should also not be capitalized. Flyer22 (talk) 18:14, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Of the sources he lists, only the last one is lumping together various communities... but even then, it's basically about the Muslim community, and when they do list other communities, they include "white" in it ("black, white or Asian"). --Nat Gertler (talk) 18:23, 14 February 2015 (UTC)

Ok A. In spite of all the talk at the Islamophobia page Muslims are not a race, they are not even an ethnicity or nationality they are a religion. Secondly, This article is strictly about Black British Homophobia. If we start lumping it together with Asian British Homophobia or Arab Bristish Homophobia or Jewish British Homophobia we will have defeated the purpose of the article.-Rainbowofpeace (talk) 06:04, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
