editInstead of going to all the trouble of trying to make this a full-fledged article with a lead section and such, wouldn't it make more sense to just merge it with the main article on Ohio State University and be done with it? Todd Carnes (talk) 14:02, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Requested Move
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved to History of Ohio State University. Jenks24 (talk) 13:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
History of the Ohio State University → History of The Ohio State University – The only difference is the capitalization of "The", as it is part of a proper noun and proper nouns are capitalized. Would have moved it myself but the target page is move protected. JOJ Hutton 19:14, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Move to History of Ohio State University. This is consistent with the current (non)consensus on the title of the Ohio State University article. As shown on frequent discussions of Talk:Ohio State University, there is considerable debate on whether to include "The" in the title per WP:COMMONAME. Until that matter is settled and consensus is changed, this article should match that one. Zzyzx11 (talk) 23:23, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- The name of the school is The Ohio State University. Why remove part of the name?--JOJ Hutton 23:32, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia article titles are based on the most common name (WP:COMMONAME), not the official name (WP:OFFICIALNAME). That is the issue in the other discussions as to why "the" is not included. Zzyzx11 (talk) 23:35, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- The main article is the most common name. This is an off shoot, which could have more leeway.--JOJ Hutton 23:55, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

- Support a move to History of Ohio State University per Zzyzx11. There's no good reason not to match the parent article. --BDD (talk) 16:23, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Support a move to History of Ohio State University. Including the "the" in either form is awkward and does not match common usage. The university itself often omits "the" (as well as "university") from its name on its own web site. —BarrelProof (talk) 17:57, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
- Support move to History of Ohio State University as above. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:17, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Significant redundancies in the article
editThis article's section significantly overlaps with the 'History' section of the Ohio State University article. Therefore, I suggest we make serious changes to the structure of this article so as to prevent extensive verbatim repetition of the same material between these two articles.
