Because of independence? edit

I'm at a loss as to how the first sentence in the "History (1965–present)" section makes sense:

Because the League of Nations mandate for Namibia was cancelled by the United Nations and the fact that Namibia became independent, the Jewish population in Namibia dramatically declined since 1965 [...][1]

I see that it is a paraphrase of the provided source, which also gives no further explanation. I can imagine why someone would leave when a country status changes from "mandated" to "occupied", but how does that apply when a country becomes independent? --Pgallert (talk) 06:25, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
